My uber top speed on the GS so far......
45 mph...
Fasted speed resulting in a little bit of a frightening stop....about 45.
Was driving home from work this afternoon, and this guy looks at me for like 10 seconds as I'm coming up the road, and at the last second pulls out in front of me. I am very thankful that I've read, cover to cover, 3 books on the proper fundamental skills. I squeezed the brake in a controlled manner, rather easily stopping within about 10 feet of his car (which he had stopped in the middle of the road to let someone else go by coming the other direction). Aaaalmost got the back end up on the stop, but thankfully didn't.
After I stopped, I just sat there. I didn't give any reaction or anything, just stared straight ahead (probably made him uncomfortable nonetheless) until he got his butt in gear.

As far as the guy complaining about the speed... i did mine at about 3am on a five lane 1.5 mile straightaway. there was absoutely no other traffic- Not A Single Car. thats the only time i have really let it rip.

Interesting take on the subject.....Mikeydude wrote:I can understand. But....BuzZz wrote:If you have to ask why, you'll never understand any answer you get.
Just a case of 'different strokes for different folks'.....
Sometimes it's fun to see just how fast you can stroke it.......
This is a New Bikers forum aimed at people that don't have much riding skill. You guys preach to buy a small 250 for your 1st bike and avoid anything with too much Horse Power as it's too hard to control. Don't ride beyond your capabilities. Stay safe.... Then you guys pop in and brag about driving 125+ MPH?
There's not a single public roadway in the United States where this is considered acceptable or legal. What kind of impression are you trying to make on the novice rider? Not only is this behavior dangerous, it sends to non-riders a message of recklessness and lack of responsibility. The lobbyists are making it tough enough on riders without this kind of thing proving their point. And how do you think it affects the credibility of this forum?
Do what you want to do, it's your skin. Just like the guy riding the wheelie in the nude. But don't talk out of both sides of your mouth. Don't preach safety then condone recklessness. It's hypocritical.
Rant over....
Flame away.
I just assumed that if the original poster didn't want to know the answer, he wouldn't have asked the question......
This opens up a whole load of questions that shouldn't be replyed to, doesn't it?
'Have you ever dropped your bike?' 'Have you ever crashed?' 'Do you wear a helmet?'......
I don't think anyone ever gave the impression of recommending that kind of speed to anyone else. I also don't think that the power of suggestion is that strong on a new rider.... witness another rider searching for the perfect noose... I mean scarf.
Sooner or later, every person has to realize that the only one responsible for themselves on the bike, is themselves. This can happen in the showroom, at the first set of lights, as they clip the rear quarter of an Impala they lost track of at the speed limit, or .02 milliseconds before running off the shoulder of a corner they took too hot....... it's your hide on the line, your ultimately responsible for it.
No Witnesses....

Hmmm, actually I'm pretty sure it's Total Motorcycle Forums, where-in there is a subsection dedicated to newbies. However the ability to read any forum is availible to any member meaning that even if this were posted in a place such as the Experienced Bikers Forum it could still be read by the new riders out there. So I think argueing that it's a bad idea to post here is irrelevant.Mikeydude wrote:I can understand. But....BuzZz wrote:If you have to ask why, you'll never understand any answer you get.

Additionally, BuzZz doesn't live in the States, so that's like saying, "we don't eat pigs because we're Jewish so you can't eat them either."
As far as condoning it, I didn't see a single person recomend attempting it, or even brag about it. I seem to recall a lot of posts talking about how they scared themselves getting up to that speed. Like an oh, I don't know... cautionary tale? Then agian I think you're just looking for a reason to be indignant.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Re: How fast have you gone?
'05 Ural Tourist, 110kmh. You have not lived until you've ridden a Russian rig WFO, baybee! Had one hell of a time keeping it on the road at that speed - took awhile to get it up there, though. Handled like a squirrel on a skating rink; skittish and all over the place... it was quite the adrenaline rush.Dirtytoes wrote:....i just want to know how much of yur bike's actual power you've used. so post motorcycle model name & fastest street speed.
But the beauty of it all is that I was going balls-to-the-wall, laugh in the face of death, 100% flat out.... and nobody knew it but me.

*EDIT*
Oh, yeah, I forgot about my other "Damn the torpedos" espisodes:
'04 Harley FLHT, 170kmh - During a tuning run (futzing with the carb jetting)
'01 Triumph Tiger 955i, 190kmh - Supposedly tops out at over 200kmh but I lost my nerve
'71 BSA Thunderbolt 650, 120mph - Well, that's what the speedo read after I hit a really big bump. But then the needle stayed there no matter what speed I rode at until I pulled over and gave it a good whack

think of the people that posted in this thread as a large family or group...none of us are telling each other wether its good or bad...
we're just "sharing" with each other our experiences, i see nothing wrong with that.

As several others have said we dont recommend going this fast, we are simply saying what we have done. I do want to add one more argument though, i was topped out cuz i was on a ninja 250-a begginners bike, i wasnt out on a 1000 my first month topping it out. and yes this is a noob section, but i can think of one guy for sure who is old enough to be my grandfather, has been riding forever, and constantly is posting here...so. stay safe and dont complain.
