again, what's wrong w/ going w/ personal preference?
the GSX-R600 has
almost everything i want.
so why would i buy a bike that is only $2000 cheaper than the gixxer and sacrifice a bunch of stuff that i like in a bike?

for the same reason everyone else gets a beater to learn on. To become a better rider, to have money left over for lessons, to save on costly repairs to a more expensive bike. Even the hardcore racers you want to be like went this route. They didnt start on a liter bike either.

that's true.
but i still think i will improve faster on a 600 than anotehr 1000 and that's reason i decided to go w/ it.
i like both bikes. normally, i would go w/ another 1000 but you guys got through me. so now, i'll get the 600 instead.
im sorry but there's just not any other smaller bike i like other than the gixxer600.
like i said, i'd go w/ the aprilia RS125 R but they don't sell them over here.
i've heard what they sound like and i like it too. i like the styling. it's an RR bike. perfect beginner bike in my opinion for sportsbike enthusiast.

Simply because the guy is a fool.
He has asked every stupid question in the book proving time and again that he has absolutely no knowledge about motorcycles and/or riding and worst of all has ignored every single piece of intelligent advice given to him in favour of looking cool.
I have no problem with people learning to ride because everyone has to start somewhere but his ignorance is utterly mindboggling.
If he wants to be a great rider, good for him but if he could just cut the nonsense he might get a little more respect because talk is cheap.
I love reading Mintbread's post. They are pretty blunt, and I feel the same way most of the time. The sarcasm he provides is usually hilarious. He is my e-hero

. I don't know why, Verm, but you continually do not understand why people are saying start with a small bike, even though you say you do. With a small bike, you can push it to its limits easier. Shifting is more important on smaller bikes, so you will learn that better and faster. I would go into better and other reasons, but it is a waste of time.

Ok Vermi. More unwanted words of wisdom. take it or leave it.
You say you want to race and do track days. At your level a bike like the SV, GS, whatever is a far superior bike for your goals. Especially the SV650.
For an entry level racer the 600 class that the GSXR runs in is one of the hardest most cut-throat classes there is. These guys will take you and your bike out in a heartbeat. And not blink an eye about putting you on the ground.
As far as the RS125, this is a very cool bike. but have you ever ridden a 2-stroke? This bike will not behave like anything you have ever ridden. And it is not an easy bike for a beginner to go fast on.
Not intended as a slam, but at this stage you have no legitimate opinions as far as what makes a good beginner bike.
No matter what, good luck and for all our sakes, be careful.

Give me a break!!!!!
The guy comes down from wanting to get another liter bike down to a 600 from advice on this board. All of a sudden because he doesnt want to get a Ninja 250 you are all back on his back???
Give it a rest, the board is getting conservative beyond common sense.
I dont like some of his reasoning either, but I think getting a GSX-R600 is a good move for him. Also, Verm comes here and doesnt trade insults, he just accepts the abuse. Ligthen up people!

I like the sv650 unfaired. The 600 looks exactly like the 1000 though, or at least I cant tell the difference

either way they are both good looking for sportbikes. I saw a gixxer blue/black/white on the road a while back (rider wearing jeans and tshirt only and tennishoes) and it looked like a nice bike.
Where are you planning on buying your bike V? Check out cyclebuy.com, someone else posted that link. When I buy my next bike I'm going to get that report first (still hung up on the z750s myself if I cant find a nice used nighthawk 750).
Dont knock V for getting a red/black bike. He spent so much money for matching gloves/helmet/full leathers it would be silly to get a bike that was a different color.
Until then you can still post pictures of yourself in the scarf.

i think you're making the riht decision there and commend you for it. I just bite my tongue every time i see a form before function comment, because that is the kind of stuff that bites you in the "O Ring".
I wont give you a hard time though because each person has to learn thier own way.

red/black... my point wasn't the colors he likes. Nor was I suggesting that he shouldn't get the colors he wants or the bike he wants. My point was that he is totally obsessed with the form. Here are two bikes. One of them, Verm would not want to own for even a year. Not even a month. The other he says he would like. Guess which is which.
I'm not going to give him advice. (except...

) He's a big boy and can make his own decisions. I do reserve the right to rip on him a bit for his decisions... people rip on me for mine often enough.
