He doesn't want to die alone.

Once a week is all you need?
I ride to work every day, at work every day and at least one day of the weekend and that is not enough.

i don't enjoy riding the streets anymore and i don't bring my bike to work unless my dad uses my car.

i just want to ride canyons and twisties. freeway is also fun when it's almost deserted since i can do high speed runs on it.

im not low on mileage... i got almost 2000 miles now since i got it last june.

so for me... once a week of canyons or twisties is a must be it alone or not. i'll go more if im w/ someone else.

...they say that with a thrill-seekin' personality, what goes up must come down. Top of the world one minute, haunted by megrims the next. Yep, it's like our friend Verm is a alley cat and his own damn humors're swingin' him by the tail....

+1 minty. methinks our friend verm is what you'd call a poseur. prolly doesn't want to ride alone cuz then no one can see how superkewl he looks.

i rode my 1000 everyday too.

but when it got stolen, i don't commute w/ my bike anymore.

the only reason i bring it to work is that the place i park is right beside the building and it has surveillance cameras.

i just use my current bike for joy rides.

and didn't you read my post above of why i prefer riding w/ at least another person? it's also a safety issue.Image

Verm... weekend-only riding is for cruiserbikes... if that's what you were gonna do you should'a bought a Mean Streak or the like.

Seriously, I can sorta understand your "once bitten" approach to riding the bike to work/school/etc... but this is a real case for getting back on the horse and just doing it. If you let fear control your actions you've lost more than just a bike. I'm thinking it is mostly that you are a social creature though... you find it boring to go out alone and do your thing with nobody around. Can't really blame you for that either I guess.

I won't criticize the safety aspects... the prospect of doing a multi-day trip into the desert without anyone along makes me a bit nervous so I'm only different by degree.

I don't think number of days per week or miles per day is a legit measure of enthusiasm.... I've put 4450 miles on my bike since May 1st and I'm willing to bet that Verm is more of a bike enthusiast ("real biker") than I'll ever be. I enjoy the ride... but I also enjoy the results... and if it wasn't practical I wouldn't be doing it. Verm (and most others around here) ride regardless of how practical it is... that indicates more enjoyment and less utility.

If my bike was stolen from work I'd be really hesitant about riding it there again too. So I cannot really blame Verm for wanting to keep it away from that area. Seems like the best way to keep from losing another one is to keep it garaged except for when you're riding it.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

i can understand not wanting to take it to work if that's where it was stolen. maybe it's just me, but if when i was a n00b rider and i wanted to get better, you couldn't keep me off of the thing. a little thing like not having anyone to ride with didn't stop me.

it was stolen at school. but same thing... i don't wanna leave it in the open unattended for a long time.

im not too paranoid of taking it to work since like i said, close to the building and has surveillance cams. i just don't bother since i'll only be riding less than 10mins and it's all streets, no cornering practice. well actually, there is 1 small 25mph posted speed limit corner. but that's it, just boring streets.

it's like this... they say once you ride at the tracks, you don't feel like riding the canyons anymore.

im not quite there yet... im just in the canyon phase... so i just want canyons and twisties and i don't wanna ride streets anymore. of course, i still ride streets to get to the canyons.

and im sure i don't have to defend the reason why i prefer to ride w/ at least one other rider.

but like i said, i'll still ride alone to get my canyon fix.
