And this is why I love Loonette... thank you, dear.

I'm a firm believer in the "if it makes you a better person and makes you a little bit happier without harming someone else, then go for it", philosophy.
Ain't it the truth though?! I love my tattoos (and plan to get several more), but some folks' body art strikes me as a curiosity. Like the dude that has the leopard spots tattooed all over himself. Or folks that implant whiskers into their faces. It's strange, odd, nothing I would ever do... but in the end, if it makes that individual feel better in this world, then go for it. I might stare (which I'm sure doesn't bother them), but I won't judge.

Liablemtl - I'm still sad that we never got to meet each other when you were on tour. Remember... if you're ever out this way, you have a place to stay. Holiday has been here - he can attest that we don't bite! (unless you beg for it. 8) )

Cheers,
Loonette
Thank you, again, for your generous offer. I wish we could hooked up and hung out, but sometimes the road gets the better of you...

Now about that biting thing... (where's scan? :smoke: )

We're the first ones to die

He's off in Michigan, playing with his friends. We only bite each other, so our guests are relatively safe.

There were more slaves in the North than in the South during the Civil War. Also, look up where the KKK headquarters is located... In the North!

Oh, and the Civil War was not a war about slavery, it was, as you said, about States Rights!
I'd be curious to see your source for the statement that there were more slaves in the north than the south during the Civil War. Maryland, Kentucky, Missouri, and New Jersey were all states where slavery was legel, but which did not leave the union. (In Marylands case it was literally held in by force of arms.) I would find it hard to believe that those states and any others where slavery might have been on paper legal, but wasn't widely practiced, to have a total slave population higher than the states that did go out.

And I'm sorry, the Civil War, was about slavery. We, southerners love to gloss it over and claim it was about anything but slavery, but any "cause" you want to pick comes right back to slavery. States rights? What was the only "states right" debated during that time? Slavery, and it's expansion into the new territories.

Simply put, if there had been no slavery, there would have been no war.

Back on topic. My signature is one of those of a religious nature. Feel free to not read it if it bothers you.

As far as the total looks of that bike, i think its a bit too much. Nothing against the religious side of it, as i do consider myself somewhat of a Christian but do not personally like the bike.
As far as the message on it, i think it is much more appropriate than some of the airbrushed or stick-on messages you see on a lot of other bikes out there. I also do not care much for the nudity or other vulgarities we too often see on bikes, especially when kids see this stuff on every street corner these days, what are we teaching our kids??
I love to look at a nude picture as much as the next person, and some slogans i find humourous too, but i don't think they belong on a bike, cage, billboard, or other public places. Then we wonder why kids have no values or care about anything.
Sorry about the venting,

Ride Safe

They weren't free until after the Civil War. You may be thinking of the Emancipation Proclamation which did not actually set any slaves free, it was more of a polite "Please let them go, I'd be so happy if you would, but if not, that's ok too."
you failed history didnt you?

Actually, no, it's one of my best subjects. I was remembering something out of one of those "what they didn't teach you in public school because it isn't politcally correct etc" books. My dad has it since he's a history teacher, which means it's up in Virginia, so I can't exactly quote it word for word or list a source.

Remember, history is written by the winners, doesn't mean it's true.

Oh, and if we went by school textbooks, Columbus discovered America first. :D

so your dads book told you that slavery was not illegal in the north until AFTER the civil war? You dont need textbooks for that, just read the laws of the time.

the war was about slavery. and states rights. and a bunch of other things.

the common southerner didnt own slaves, or really care about them. the common northerner didnt care if slaves existed. the south did however feel that the north posed a threat to the "southern antebelum" way of life if they were made able to change laws that the southern politicians deemed important.

states rights were only an issue when slavery forced that issue.

anyhow, you dont need to tell me how the accounts of history change based on where you get your information. thats a bit of a given, and why good teachers get their material from numerous sources and form thier own opinions. A good example, if you're interested is "causes of the civil war", and i think the other book im thinking of it " why we fight" or something like that. When i get home from vacation ill grab it from my shelf and gett the correct title. Its a book that is entirely made up of letters written by both sides during the war, about why they were fighting. there is very little, to no mention of slavery....

anyhow, read up, because although i agree everyone needs to get thier information from various places, some of your basic facts are incorrect.

That is absoutely correct. When I was 19 I dug into that subject and discovered exactly what Holiday said. Its just easier to explain it to 16 year olds that slavery was the issue I guess.

BTW can I call you Doc Holiday now because you are so SMRT??

im not smart, this just happens to be one of my favorite subjects. i was going to school to be a history teacher for a while.

my name actually used to be Doc_Holliday, when i first started picking handles in the mid 90's. over the years i shortended it and it kind of turned into the european vacation day instead of the person when i dropped the extra l. I just liked Kilmer's character's dry sense of humor so much in tombstone, thats why i originally picked the name. Because he's a bit of a douche, like me :)
