Yes, he was Military Police, or as us Army types liked to call them, "Meatheads".
It would "pee" you off, but it would absolutely TERRIFY me if our Members of Parliament had the authourity to issue traffic tickets... they have all the interpersonal dynamics of a nursery school recess while they're in session at Parliament, can you imagine the damage they could do with a ticket book??!!

ahem...don't ya mean "Bonehead"? Remember the price of meat.
Damn, this is bring back some lost memories.....

The cameras on the cars are often used to prove someone was going the speed the officer claimed so the local municipalities can get their money. Cops are often reviewed and those tapes are often used, and the cops know this. Those tapes record audio, and it is doubtful that a review board would look favorably on an officer letting a possibly stolen, excessively speeding, wrong tagged bike just ride off with a slap on the wrist and the cops know this as well!
The cop might now have been following us. He might not even have seen us. Maybe someone was with him and saw us, and said wow, they were going really fast.
It could be a million factors. The fact is... IT HAPPENED.
We didn't ride off into the sunset happily doo dah. My father recieved 3 tickets and was fined over $500.
Now we have the fines coming up........so, did you really have to tow the bike home as well? Because I still cannot see a US Highway Cop allowing an uninsured and unplated bike to roll off into the sunset.......

Y'know, despite the hassles and attitudes we always gave you, we appreciated the job you guys did. From traffic control at zero dark-thirty on field exercises to keeping the peace in the PMQ's and all the bars back in garrison, you really had your hands full on some Bases.
But we REALLY appreciated it when you guys showed up at a brawl in the mess tent during a NATO exercise... we knew we had a decent chance of making it back to the tents in one piece if we kept our mouths shut and did what we were told. Not so whenever those friggin' British "red caps" arrived on the scene. Or those 6' 8", 380lb armed neanderthals that the US Army MP Corps always sent out. It was always a pitched battle with those boys.

Well I'm truly sorry sir, unfortunately for you, the police officer let me ride it home.
End of story.
If so, then that bugger should turn in his badge and consider a new line of work.....

Man do I have some stories about keeping the peace in both barracks and PMQ's........and one interesting bar fight the LSH mess at Sarcee.....wheeeee......note to anyone considering a job as an MP, when breaking up a fight in mess, make sure that long haired freaky friend of Jesus you are about to chock out is
NOT the bar manager.....

Anthony : It's 2007 my goof friend, times have changed
The officer did not know how fast we were going. He had to guess. He guessed 100, my dad said 80, so he wrote it in at 90..
I worked at a Police Dept in the U.S. for 12 years with my last year being 1999. I still remain in close contact with them and have a lot of very good friends still working there so I am still knowledgeable about law enforcement and any changes. I know officers are certified in judging speeds of passing vehicles without actually getting a radar lock. Hours and hours are spent standing on the side of a road guessing speeds before they are certified. They are also trained to pace you to obtain an accurate speed so he could have came up with a very good guesstimate. With that being said if an officer did allow you to drive off he should be fired immediatley and is not doing what he is paid to do, to protect citizens. That type of speed and without proper registration is automatically a "Go Directly to Jail and do not pass Go" offense. One of the crazy things about America you could probably sue that officer and the police dept now for letting you go because you were a danger to your self or others. (LOL Bad joke I know but some truth to it)
I am not going to say you are lying because believe me I know there are some horrible people out there who call themselves Police Officers so anything is possible. For the most part though they are great people who love their work or they would not be out there risking their lives so bad cops are a minority. Most officers love to take people to jail and jump at any opportunity though. An old saying is "Perception is Reality". I know you must perceive this is what happened or you have repeated it so much it is now a reality in your mind. Either way count yourself lucky that your dad only got a few tickets. If would have been very easy for you to have been going to his funeral than court with him. With you being a new rider I hope you put this behind you and do not follow that example. Ride safely and do not pull crazy stunts like that. There is a verse in the bible that says you will reap what you sow. That normally comes to play in all parts of life. You may be the lucky one but there is a better chance that some police officer, firefighter, or EMT will be scraping you off of the road some day if you continue to ride like that. (I know I know it was your dad but you were close behind on the Harley so I bet you were moving at a pretty good rate of speed yourself).
Use Common Sense
& Ride Safe,

I guess we came across a crooked cop? Even though he seemed quite nice.
I suppose the next yarn you'll be spinning is that you've been to high school.

He probably whizzed through high school at 165mph.
