If you haven't got an angle grinder, a bicycle tyre on a spindle will do nicely (although an angle grinder is useful for removing the bike tyre, for attatching to a spindle)

also, I don't think anyone has yet considered te affect of air drag on the rider and bike, whilst the wheels are powering forwards the outside of the turn.... That would create a moment (a turning force).

Don't forget to pick your feet up...This is a great example of the conservation of angular momentum...a yo-yo is a slightly different example, as is the merrygoround example...was that in this thread?

I think a merrygoround is a perfect image for what has been happening here. The thread seems to have conserved its momentum (including quite a lot of the angular variety) over the last couple of weeks.

Thanks Richard, I certainly enjoyed the mental exercise and discussion. It would be much better to ride out to a (not so nearby) pub and discuss this over a beverage, but we seem to be on opposite ends of the pond, so that rules that out.

Oh, you never know, Jacob. Canada is definitely on my motorcycling hit list. Maybe one day.

I have posted this thread over on Kzrider.com...there is interest in this topic, and I figured this thread has the most in-depth treatment of it. Hope you guys don't mind (translate..."sorry, too late" ).

Much easier to ask forgiveness than to get permission, although I know you guys don't mind...old Air Force habits die hard.
