A black mariah is a police transport van. The term was also used to refer to the black carriages undertakers used to move coffins in. I first heard it on I Love Lucy like 15 years ago (I was about 10 at the time. Do the math).
It's quite silly, really. The most common spelling is black maria, even though it's pronounced MUH-RYE-UH. I'm from Texas. We have a lot of Hispanics. Have fun, try not to wad your bike, and don't be upset if you don't get the quality instruction you're looking for - it's a trackday, not a riding school. The instructors are typically there to make sure you aren't a danger to the other riders. Beyond that, if you want instruction from real pros - you need a riding school, not a trackday.
