Oh an Verm, Zoo seems to subscribe to the Ad Hominem school of debate. It can be remarkably effective, especially in front of crowds, but is generally looked down upon.

TV stations love sensational reporting. This is no different, except that in my opinion, the reporters were quite restrained. Frankly, the repetition (several times) that the problem was only with the few bad apples is amazing. That report could have been waaaay worse : "Renegade Biker Terrorists Sharing the Road With You!!" Film at 11:00.
The lame-"O Ring" sherriff who's afraid to point a radar gun at a biker, for fear he'll fall down, is just that. Lame. My guess is he's got something better to do on the weekends than enforce traffic laws because this really is a no-brainer. Does he really think squid bikers riding stupid on twisty roads is something new? Where has he been for the last 30 yrs.? Most cops I know would be salivating on their ticket books for an opportunity like that.
This is nothing unique to Georgia. Anywhere you find a good twisty road, you'll find squids doing double the limit and scaring old folks and children. The simple solution is for local law enforcement to get off their butts, get in their cars and create a visible presence. In most places, topping 100 on a mountain road is enough to land you in jail. Only the stupidest of the stupid are going to continue doing that when the cops are around. The cops should be able to pick off those few and make them wish they'd never seen a motorcycle before. It's a simple crackdown and it's very effective. This whole business of throwing up their hands and claiming there's nothing they can do just makes them look incompetent.

I dont know, these days I would not be at all surprised if a cop startles a biker by trying to catch him, resulting in the biker crashing because they were going 130mph, and the family suing the city for it.

I think you might have a different opinion if you rode a sport bike. I totally agree that anyone driving a cage at 20+ over the limit is being reckless. And someone riding a cruiser at 20+ over the limit is just asking for something bad to happen. (However, the performance of some cruisers makes this untrue)
But most sportbikes are very happy at 20, 30, or 40+ over the limit. I personally got a speeding ticket on my sport bike for going 23 mph over the limit. Keep in mind that according to my insurance company, I'm officially a safe driver.

And this was my first ticket ever. I didn't intend to speed and until that cop nailed me with his radar gun, I had actually been riding within 5 mph of the limit all day. But all it took is one nice corner that I entered legally at 55 mph but ended up with a mid corner speed of 83 mph. During which time I was looking through the corner and not at my speedometer. At no time was I being reckless or endangering anyone's life, including my own.

I'm afraid not. My personal choice to stick to the speed limit (or within 5mph of it depending on traffic) is a conscious decision. It has nothing to do with my comfort zone or the comfort zone of the vehicle. I feel its our responsibility to follow the rules of the road for everyone's safety. Whether I am in a golf cart or a lamborgini.
Such speeding may be comfortable for you and your bike because nothing's going wrong. I'm sure the biker in the video who wrecked and was muttering "please help me" paralized was very comfortable with his speed until he crashed. If anything, the vehicle can trick your senses into believing that you are safe going a certain speed. On a bike, we are not safe at all at up to 30mph+. You can get seriously hurt even at those speeds. What saves us is part luck, and of course the fact that everyone has a set of rules that they follow (including speed limits) to keep us out of trouble.
Once you violate the rules, your margin of safety shrinks because you have made yourself an unpredictable element on the road, which is a sure fire way to cause an accident. This is why there are laws in place to prevent people from driving too slow as well as too fast.
Maybe you are safe if you are riding within your skill level, with no other vehicles (or possibility of encountering vehicles), and you are on a stable surface and paying attention. Then of course 85mph may be perfectly fine because you are in controlled conditions. Your 'rules' have created a safe condition. Those places are easy to find. They're called racetracks. On the road, you follow the rules. You rules for riding fast and taking quick corners do not exist on a public road, and that's what leads to accidents.

every road is a racetrack.
