i've grown attached to that bike even if we have only spent a few months together.

They won't go searching for a used '06. They'll open up a book that tells them what a used '06 will be worth (i.e depreciation from brand new). And write a check.

I can't really comment on your parents experience, as I've never had the kind of insurance contract where the insurance company goes out and buys you a replacement. After looking at my old policies from various companies, they all say that they'll just pay me the market value of the insured item.

I guess it's only a matter of time until we see what Verm's company will do. Should be interesting.

I wonder if anyone trolls this site looking for a bike to steal?? That would suck. Quite a few of us have given enough info that would point an arrow right to our bikes. Aahhh, the pros and cons of the internet...

Man, sorry to hear about your bike Verm. Getting your bike stolen is like getting a punch to the gut, or maybe worse. But hey at least you got good insurance. I wouldn't hold my breath too long waiting for those insurance companys to pay up, they can be a real pain sometimes.


All this makes me want to go out and buy more security junk for my bike.

unless you can always find a post to tie your bike, and even w/ that i don't think it will prevent pros.

so im really considering lojack. it looks like a great product to trace your bike fast and i'll even get a discount on my insurance premiums.

anyway... i did the right thing when i made sure i got full cov for ins my bike.

i think we should be legally able to kill bike thieves.

or at least shoot them in the legs.

I'd still invest in the alarm that pages you.

Lojack may help trace the bike but you may just end up finding only that part of the bike once it's been chopped up.

An alarm would let everyone around (if there are any people around) go "Hmm, maybe they aren't supposed to be touching that bike."

Also the page would let you run out of the lecture (or wherever you are) and maybe do something about the thieves. You took martial arts, right?

not gonna work... i only trained w/ weapons. i dunno nothing about unarmed combat.

and also regarding the alarm, if they can take the bike in less than 20 secs, what good will a pager do.

and even if it is alarming, the sheriff and my mechanic said it won't stop them. but maybe it will work w/ small time thieves but the ones that got me were real pros.

I have an agreed value policy on my boat.
All my relatives are afraid to borrow it.

I just tell them "If you sink it, make sure you're in deep water so it's a total loss!"

Three different values though 1 for the boat, 1 for the motor and 1 for the trailer. Ahh why can't a TT clean it right off the back of my truck for a clean sweep?

Some alarms with paging systems have proximity sensors. If someone gets within a certain range it alerts you and sounds the alarm.
