It's funny you should think that...

On another site, there was a rider that went down and totalled his bike. He never had full insurance coverage and due to the fact he was unable to work, many people that knew him on the boards donated time, money and parts to buy a used bike and bring it up to the same level as the he totalled was and presented to him at a local maintenance day. No one ever attached any stigma to the more than friendly handout to a fellow rider.

Truthfully, I would have no problem with helping out in a group effort such as that. I donate to this site which we all know is totally unnecessary, but I believe it's the right thing to do...

Doc

That is really very kind of you. I took your remarks to be a lighthearted comment on the current political shennanigans and replied in a similar vein. I'm really sorry if I mistook your motives. That can't have felt good.

The truth is that I would be in a much better position to finance my bikes if I budgeted rather more carefully than I do. If I were made an offer like this, I would feel like I was taking money off people under false pretences. But it is a very kind thought, and implies a sense of community that doesn't often exist any more.

I will get this sorted. And if I am not made redundant next year (or they give me a decent pay-off) I will do my best to get over to see you guys. You have just given me one more very big reason to make that a reality.

Best wishes

Richard

It's probably rainy and cold...I recommend going to a blues club and listen to some great music and have a few dances.

Hi Blues

Lol. If it is rainy and cold then I will feel right at home. We've had a miserable summer this year. Though it was surprisingly warm here, today and, wonder of wonders, I spent the afternoon cutting back the summer's growth in the garden. It is great what you can get done on a Sunday without a bike.

On second thoughts, it has occured to me to wonder what exactly a Canadian means when they say it is "rainy and cold". I'm suspicious!

A blues club sounds just about right.

Cheers

Good to see you back, sir. Even if you ARE grouchy, insolvent, bike-deprived and railing against northern American music. :)

Hey, I've been bike-deprived for four years. If you come to the States, spare an hour to come to Michigan and howl about it with me.

Hi noodle

Hey, good to hear from you!

And sort-of glad to know that four years of deprivation can be survived. My two weeks has been hell - seriously bad for my mental health (and other people's peace of mind.)

I would love to come and say, hi. Funnily enough I was poring over a map of your part of the world today and thinking where I would like to travel. Tell me something: is the Upper Peninsular part of Michigan or Wisconsin? My atlas doesn't make it clear. I'm a real nerd: it bugs me when I know that I don't know something. :D

I'm sure that there must be some good music coming out of the north. It's just that I don't seem to have heard any.

How's that family of yours doing?

Take care of yourself

Hud

I'll take the liberty of answering for Noodle. "Da yoop" (the U.P.) is in Michigan. http://www.dayoopers.com/whatwher.html

Yup, the Upper Peninsula is part of Michigan, though they grumble about all the "trolls" who live below the Mackinac Bridge. As for music, Michigan is responsible for the whole "Motown" genre....and Ted Nugent...and Kid Rock...and Eminem. Yup.

LOL. We have something of the same trouble with Londoners, though fortunately they just pass on through on their way north.
