me and my p.o.s need help
first off, i came here and noticed all my posts are gone...wtf right...WRONG
it really sucks some one would do that to this site...whats the point.
my 96 yam secaII needs some attention on here with all you gear head.
i have a ticking sound, white smoke, and a lack in power. i have been told that is my valves, its my vacum, it my valve seals, bla bla. just wondering if i give some pics of the engine if that would help with a more accurate diagnostics(sp). i know i need new seals and other small things.
or if i could be more detailed with the problems would some one be willing to seriously help me, because i am also looking to just get a whole new engine to fix the problem, but i really dont have the money for that. so HELP ME.......Please. even if i can give some one my number and talk to some one. because that would be better then this...but this is a start

First and foremost, does the smoke go away after the engine warms up?
Typicaly if it was the rings it would smoke at start up and ease off as the rings expand when hot.
If your smoke is constant, it is the valve seals/valves. If this is the case I would advise you to do as I did. I took off the head and down to honda it went. they install new seals, guides and ground the valves.
While I had the engine apart I also put new rings only cuz I was already there and took very little effort.
I hope this helps you, get it runnin cuz summers here.

Sorry if you've answered these questions before, but my short term memory takes a chitkickin'....
Have you done a compression test on all the cyclinders? And results?
Does the white smoke have a strong odor? Like burning oil or raw gas?
How down on power is it? Lots.... it will barely pull itself around, or a little.... it takes more throttle to get up to the same speed as before.

to answer the first question, it smokes at first start up and then dies off. but when i get in higher rpm it lets off a little even after warm up. ( it runs, i ride it daily, should i be, to school and back at least 40mi a day.)
as for the compression test, yes. they all where even with each other, but they where running a little high. i think it was suppose to be at 9 and it was at 14 or so. whatever it reads in.
i wouldnt say strong...but it dose have an odor. of oil. AND oil is coming out of the exhaust, i know thats a bad sign.
power is down, and i know because it when im on the freeway, i can feel it push randomly (give a little bit of umph for a sec or two) every now and then. i would say little bit. but it fhas lost more top speed then anything.
i hope this helps, and if there is anything else i would be mroe then willing to expand on this.

That sure sounds like valvestem seals, possibly with actual stem and/or guide wear. That explains the the smoking and the pattern of smoking. Loss of power and surgeing are probably due to oil fouling and carbon build-up. Oil out the exhaust.... well we don't need to guess that is not a good thing....
Higher compression is odd..... you must have a lot of carbon built up in the combustion chamber and piston crown... I guess.... that's all I can think of to explain it......
So I would say your looking at a head rebuild. Hopefully the cams are O.K., but I don't know much it is going to cost for your head. Call some shops that do machinework and ask for prices.
They want a thousand bucks to do my GSXR-750 head up here. But that head is a complex, hard to machine unit so they eat up alot of labor. Yours may well be much cheaper.... maybe....

Maybee you could try the cheapest trick I've done to get rid of the carbon builded up on the rings. I swear it cured my bike from burning oil, so it might solve your problem too.
1 - Go buy 2 liters of Diesel
2 - Takes off your spark plugs
3 - Drain your engine oil and leave the screw and put something under
3 - Fill your cylinders of diesel
4 - Wait a day
5 - Fill your cylinders of diesel again
6 - Wait another day
7 - Screw the oil screw
8 - Put some oil in the engine
9 - Start the engine
10 - Let it run for 30 minutes then take it for a slow ride it's gonna smoke like Hell since your gonna burn Diesel. Stay away from cops !
11 - If your lucky your rigs will be cleared up of carbon and stop burning oil.
What it does is that diesel is a carbon solvent so but soaking your rings with diesel your gonna dissolve the carbon. There is a good chance that your spark plugs will be done afther that so check your spark plugs afther 100 miles.

I have never tried the diesel trick but have seen it done with kerosene can't say if I'd try it or not.
As for you valve seal problem. my friends kz750 had the same problem especially the oil in the exhaust and erratic throttle on the highway.
He did an oil change and added some Lucas oil treatment and it worked. He's going on his third season adding this stuff every oil change. almost 15K miles and a shop told him three years ago he would be lucky to make it home.
Now I'm not saying this is a definite fix but for a few extra dollars over you oil change is worth the try.

its worth the few bucks to try before spending hunderds. as for the deisel trick, im going to ask around more before i try that. im always up for different and new things, as long as its benefitial. i have some pics of my P.O...bike, but dont know how to post them in a relpy? or do i edit my original post?
anyone know of a site or company that sells complete seal kits or what not for a 1996 yamaha seca II??

You can run a search engine with Cometic Gaskets or just Yamaha Gaskets or such.... Yamaha themselves will have a top-end gasket kit....
I wouldn't sweat about soaking the inside with diesel, you will have most of it drained and blown out before you fire it up, all it will do is loosen the build-up for you.....
Pics in your post..... better ask someone with better comp skills....sorry
