I'm going into canada in a few weeks. Anyone have any problems with border crossings? I'm taking my birth certificate and normal ID. Just wondering if it's turning into a hassle to go back and forth. Thanks

As of this year you need a passport to get back into the US

George W. and Stephen Harrper were discussing this in Mexico just the other day at the summit. Harper doesn't want to go there, George W. is insisting on it. They have actually been a little sticky about letting anyone south of the 49th without a passport for a couple of years. Now it's going to be official....

It can be, depending on the Border Guards/Customs Agent on either side, going or coming back. They can require you to have a passport and, if you don't, completely ruin your travel plans.
Get one just to be on the safe side.

there is a website that says i only need a birth certificate and photo ID. I was just wondering if anyone has actual experience here that has done it recently.

They'd be incorrect.

I'm Canadian (living in Nashville, TN) so yes to both. Like I said, get the passport. Even if you don't officially need it, all it takes is one cranky border guard either going to Canada or coming back home to *really* put a crimp in your travel plans....
