'90 EX500 2nd gear issue. Need assistance.

Yesterday I was out and my chain snapped while in second and wadded itself around the front sprocket, killing the engine.

After fixing it, second gear is making a bit of a racket. It "clunks" at the same speed as the rear wheel is moving. i.e, the faster I go, the more rapidly it "clunks".

I'm assuming that the 2nd output gear is probably missing a tooth.

Is there potentially something else that I am missing?

Does the case DEFINATLEY need to be split for this one (so far it looks definate).

A parts Fische can be seen here:

That's a Bummer, Dude. You most likey bent/broke something, ussually do when you wad the chain up around the countershaft sprocket. Your lucky if you didn't break the case, but a bent shaft or mangled gear is also possible, all of witch means opening the motor right up.

Thanks for the reply, Buzz. Just a crap situation...chain only had about 100 miles on it too.

Anyone wanna buy a 90 EX500 with a funny 2nd gear?
