Safety Course Started Today!

#1 Unread post by Gatineau_Guy »

Well, today was the first day of the safety course required to get my license here in Quebec. It was a BEAUTIFUL Day! It was about 3 degrees Celcius and pouring rain which later became wet snow :( . There were only 8 people in the course and all went well. Everyone else were on Honda Rebels. I had a yellow 535 cc yamaha cruiser with purple flames painted on the tank. By the end of the day I had grown quite attached to the bike. No one dropped their bike.

We spent some time on stopping and starting in first gear, using the rear brake only. Then we work on left and right turns. Following this we working on shifting into second and stopping. Then they set up a course of pilons for us practice on for the last 1.5 hours. I accidentally scraped the pegs while going around the big circle

The one important thing I learned today was the importance of looking were you are going. I have not ridden for almost a decade so I was a little rusty and found that I was looking at the front wheel when I was starting out. When starts were a little shakey. The instrutor point this out and from then on it was smooth sailing. This was an even bigger help going throught the course and doing figure 8s.

My fingers and toes were blue by the end of the 5 hours but you could still not wipe the smile off my face :D (nor could you stop my teeth from chattering! ).

Cheers,
