Suzuki Announces Hayabusa 1500

Suzuki Motors USA announced today the introduction of the Hayabusa 1500, a 1498cc version of their top-selling sportbike.

“Since its introduction in 1999 the Haaybusa has been the unquestioned king of sportbikes,” said Hal Jalikacek, product manager for Suzuki. “It became apparent to us that some other company wanted to upstage us with a 1400cc bike. That just would not fly. We need to place ourselves back on top.”

The new Hayabusa will be available in dealers in May and will have an MSRP of $12,450. Top speed will be production-limited at 186 mph which can actually be reached in fifth gear of its six-speed gearbox. The new Hayabusa is also available with an optional supercharger, boosting its power output to 570 hp. The Hayabusa 1500SC will have the highest output of any production motorcycle by a large margin.



In addition, Suzuki announced the Dragon, a new turn-key Pro Stock Dragbike based on the Hayabusa 1500 motor that will be available through dealers this fall. Priced at just under $45,000 the bike will feature a state-of-the-art EFI system, an enlarged 1655cc motor and will be legal for NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class. The prototype test machine has run a corrected-altitude pass of 6.98 seconds in NHRA legal trim.

“You can now buy a complete turn-key dragbike at any Suzuki dealer and be competitive in the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class,” said Jalikacek. “This is a serious motorcycle for serious competition. It was our intention to re-write the book and I feel confident that we have done so.”

You just had to figure Suzuki would do this, but the optional supercharger is a bit of a twist. Kinda makes the 'top speed limiter' look like the political joke it is.

Yeah, it only does 186.... but it gets there in 3.4 seconds...... so it's safe. :laughing:

Who are they really trying to fool?

And I wonder if they are going to give test rides on the blown version..... :twisted:

2 things about bikes never surprise me.

#1. The amount of shiny krap they will hang on a cruiser.

#2. The lengths they will go to in order to claim 'The Fastest Crotch Rocket'.

So much of the marketing is based on 'we got more(of whatever) than the others'. And it works. 95% of riders never make it to boards like this, couldn't ride a quarter of their bikes potential, or even care to try.... it's all about bragging rights at the local hangout. Bragging about what exactly is secondary, as long as they read someplace(or heard some one else mention) that their bike has the biggest/best/most of something.

But it wouldn't surprise me either way if that article was right or wrong. I could believe both.... :mrgreen:

even if it is an april fools joke, a hyabusa 1500 for 2007 would not suprise me at all.

+1. Although there is no way that thing is 586 hp even with a turbocharger.

Heck, the Moto GP bikes are what...250 or so? The cutting edge prototype bikes that cost a million dollars a year to rent and they make this with more than twice the power for $14,000...riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

theres some Back street Busa turbos knocked up in guys sheds running 500hp with 25K into them, no problem, Ive even heard of a 700HP that I see blow up on a dyno...You got the cash you can have anything you want

700 HP out of an engine 1.3 litres in size is pretty damn unlikely.

Consider that at their peak CART engines made a little over 800 HP, and they were more than twice that size (2.8L) the notion of a bike putting out 700 is pretty ridiculous.

As the previous guys said, 240 HP is the rule these days for the highest level performers, so anything over that should draw much suspicion.

ther are 2 busas in my town that drag out at the local dragstrip and both are heavily modded stockers with turbos that produce over 500..one is 520 and the other right at 550(i think?)..everything has to be modified though from cranks to a complete reversed oil pickup system to other stuuf i dont even pretend to know about like air shift systems..They are stupid loud too..they are both in major competition with each other and post high 6's and low 7's..they also drive these bikes on the streets but very rarely, i think they tend to overheat very quickly
