i dont know anything about bikes, but im willing to learn and determined enough to buy one of my own and i figured a motorcycle forum would be a good place to ask.

found this local deal.

...bike comes with the bike cover, matching tail cover, back tail bar, back seat and other extras that I purchased for the bike and it is a brand new bike just with 2264 miles. Has new battery tires are still new"

yeah, i have no idea what all that stuff is except a bike cover and back seat.

she is asking for 4900... is that a reasonable price?

it seem about right for the price. my concern is the biek itself. While it is a bike that you can learn on, many have, yet many are against it. It has a little bit too much power and many would advise i slighty smaller bike like a kawasaki ninja 500. The SV650 is a good bike, im looking at getting one as my 2ed bike. You can learn on it if you are safe and very cautious, though i would advise a smaller bike.

SV should be ok for a more mature new rider. I would not put a 16 year old on an SV.

Price is a little high on that 2003. see if you can get them to come down a little

As an SV owner you can do much better price wise. A brand new SV can be bought for 6,000 OTD so you figure 3 years old and a few thousand miles should be around ~$3500.

Buying a bike before you learn how to ride can be a big mistake. I think it's best to learn to ride first, THEN get a bike.

Just my opinion, of course. But, the only smart thing to do when you are learning is to get as many opinions as you can, then make up your own mind.

This could be true... but some people aren't in a position where they have access to a bike to learn on before buying...
I couldnt take the course with my schedule and there was no way I was going to crash up someone else's bike rather than my own...
BTW: Honda Shadows are durable first bikes! haha

I started off (and still have) on a 92 katana 600. I know for you all real sport riders you're laughing.... but that thing had wayyy too much under the grip for me starting out.

in fact i'd still kinda like to have a lil 250cc cruiser type to putt around on those things look fun.
