running lean

i just got the cobra blv. slip-ons for my 2001 shadow 1100 and was wondering if i dont jet and tune would it run to lean and burn up the engine. i know alot of people run slip-ons without jetting but i dont want to hurt the bike if i put on 10 thousand miles on it this summer. thanks for any help.
