Who else here started riding this way?

I got a friend to let me ride his CBR 900 in a big parking lot.

It was a rainy day so I was learning in less-than-ideal conditions.
Anyway I took it out for about 2 hours just getting decent.

Then on yet another rainy day I rode his KLR 650 for an hour in the same lot.

Time went by then I said screw it, I'm getting a bike, although I was pretty broke so someone I knew just sold me for $300 his crappy old CB400 and I just started riding unendorsed.

Anyone else go this route?

Four-wheelers, mini bikes, rides on my bro-in-law's Ninja 600 when I was sixteen...then just bought a CX500 a few years ago and rode unendorsed and without permit for a couple years. I didn't get licensed until I bought my third and current bike.

I'm sure that there are plenty of people who have learned how to ride that way. Me, I took the MSF and went from there.

That's pretty much the way I learned. If they'd had MSF courses back then I probably would have gone that route, since I bent a few bikes and lost a lot of skin during the learning process.

I eventually got a motorcycle endorsment 3 years and three bikes later.

Dirt bikes, trials bikes as a kid, rode on my UK learners with my first 250, then a motorsport license, finally got a legal road license at age 37.
