Popping when Slowing down

After I release the throttle, but before I pull in the clutch, an offbeat popping sound comes from the muffler while the engine revs slowly come down. It's like a really quiet backfire-type sound. It only happens when the rpms are high. Is this normal? If not, what are the possible reasons for it?

The engine could be running lean, but it's probably just normal. My bike backfired by design until I installed my new pipes and plugged the vacuum hose going to the reed valves.

I have the same issue. Some people like it. I never minded it, I thought it sounded cool.

That's what I thought, but I just wanted to be sure. Thanks!
