Yesterday I bought my first used bike. It is a 1993 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 with 52000km on it. It looked to be in good shape and the seller said that he would safety it for me. It was priced at $2200 and I left a $500 non refundable deposit. I'm supposed to pick it up next week after the safety. A friend of mine told me that it has too many kilometers on it and that it wont be very reliable. My question is: Am I being ripped off with this deal or is it a good one?

A lot of the guys over at VROC have six-digit mileage (miles, not kilometers) on Vulcan 750's, 800's, and 1500's.

Bike sounds OK to me. What "safety it" means, I have no idea. Hope you haven't just lost $500.
55K on the ode is fine as long as the bike was maintained. You should have asked for maintenance proof, to be sure. You should have also told the guy you would "safety it" yourself.
I sold a Suzuki 850 with close to 70K on it and it ran fine because I maintained it well.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, I feel much better about the purchase now. What I meant by "safety it" was to get it certified to be legal on the road. The seller was using the term "to safety it".

Doesn't sound like to bad of a deal. Did you check it out in person? Did you look for all the normal stuff, oil on the forks, good tires, make sure it fired up and everything? If it's in good shape now it'll last you a LONG time.

The VN 750 is a terriffic bike. I bought my 98 w 13k on it for $ 2800.00.

Two areas that can develop a problem are the voltage regulator / and the stator. However with some minor mods these can be avoided.

Vulcans rock. I've got 56k miles on my 454 and it runs great. They're just bullet-proof. Check the exhaust, both my 454's were rusted to 'crumb'.
