God not having a bike is freaking killing me. And I can't afford one, not yet. I have a job lined up for this summer but that's 5 freaking weeks away! And then I have to work to pay for one.

And then on top of that is the gear and the insurance, which will cost more since I got a ticket last week for 45 in a freaking 40...

And the ticket is gonna set me back $103 plus whatever defensive driving costs.

AND I look at Craigslist/CycleTrader and salivate at all teh great deals that I know I won't be able to find when I'm actually looking for a bike (because the world works that way).

And...and that's it. Just wanted to get that out and on the table. Oh and if you have like, a free bike. Send it my way.

*steps off his box*

Why exactly did you not contest this in court? Speedometer and radar gun innaccuracies are sufficient to pardon a 5mph offense.

Because I forgot to ask to see his license to use the radar gun and to even see the radar gun in the first place. So I have no model or anything to go off of.

Hell TBH I don't even know if he got me AT 45, that's just what it says on the ticket and that's the speed I always do down that road.

I think he was filling a quota because right after he was done with me he pulled someone else over. I mean I had barely left the parking lot and he was already on his way after someone else. Thought I'd forgotten my license or something at first and he was trying to get my attention again.

Shiv,

No matter what state you live in you should always contest all traffic tickets. At the minimum they well negotiate the fine in court. You mite even get lucky and have it dismissed.

Here in Conn the court system is so backed up sometimes the courts will dismiss the case & notify you thru the mail. So, you don't even have to show up at all. For that reason alone its worth pleading not guilty. This happened to me last year.

and if the lazy cop doesn't show up, no ticket! Contest everything, even if you know you are guilty. Worst that can happen, you show up, say "I wasn't speeding". The cop yes "Yes you were" and the judge keeps your ticket.

Ah I'll remember that for next time. They need like a booklet or something with your rights in it. They're not easily available (even with the internet).

I should've taken a criminal justice class in high school..

But yah I've already paid for the ticket and signed up for defensive driving so it's a bit late to do much about it.

Its only a matter of knowing how the system works & using it to your advantage.
