Is it feasible/recommended to carry a tinted face shield and swap it with the clear face shield as needed? Or is it better to try to fit sunglasses inside the helmet?

if you have the space for the extra visor then I say go for the visor
if not then sunglasses under the helmet are not that bad if they dont have thick frames.
i normally wear glasses under my helmet anyway so im used to it.

if you always have tank or tail bags on your bike, it's a great idea.
me, im fine riding tinted at night. i do switch it sometimes when i leave at night, but if i go out at day and expect to home late, i don't bother to carry my clear w/ me.
besides, when i ride at night, im going slower than how i usually ride.
also, my bike's headlight is pretty good even at low beam.

Using your dark shield at night, traffic, traffic signals and the like are still pretty easy to see. Unless you only ride on well lighted streets, things like dogs, cats, coyotes and small children running across the road will be much more difficult to see.
Take my word for it, hitting a coyote on a bike is not fun. I had my tinted shield on and couldn't see it until it entered the the beam of my headlight.
I wear glasses (plastic shatterproof lenses) and usually have a windshield on, so I just flip my tinted shield up at night.
Edit : I forgot to mention, as Skier did in another thread, that tinted visors at night are probably illegal in your state.

I do pretty much the same thing. I keep my tinted on all the time. But I'll flip it up and use just my glasses when it's to dark to see. though where I'm riding at night it's usually lit well enough between my headlight and streetlight that it isn't an issue.

On the second thought, I don't really like this idea. The face shield is big and curved, so I can't fit it in the underseat storage. I could put it in my backpack, I guess, but then I risk breaking it. Also, I'm kinda worried about snapping it when taking it off the helmet.
So, I'd rather get some sort of tinted screen that I can put over the clear face shield. Does such a thing exist?

I keep my tinted one all the time but Ive got a pair of excellent glasses I keep under my seat. They magnify the light so when I put them on it takes the tint away so at night its fine.

I saw a pretty cool jacket the other day. I think it was Joe Rocket, but it had a pocket inside the jacket for a spare shield. The concept is very cool to me but I wonder how it handles a low speed crash (can't feel good having that up against you) or how protected the shield is...

How could the visor fit in a pocket when its nearly a half circle curve?
