HELP: green and orange stripes in the thread

Hi guys,
I finally bought after 8 months of window shopping and 5 years being on foot, a new beautiful suzuki GSF 1200 bandit K6.

The bike is wonderful, rides confortably and has got lots of power despite what some reviews say about the new K6.

On my first day to work, I had all my collegues down to see my new bike, as nobody could believe that I had finally got one!

One of my collegues, looking at the tyres asked me what were the coloured orange and green stripes in the thread. I initially thought they were markings that the tyre manifacturer makes to enable the fitter to distinguish the left to right side.
Looking better to my bike's tyres, I realized it couln'd be because my front tyre has the green line on the opposite side of the back tyre. (Unless they fitted wrongly)

Does anybody know what are that markings for?

Thanks,

Giuseppe

Googling about this doesn't give much results! :(

I'm sure it's something to that extent. Just a way to distinguish certain aspects of one tire from another. I'm sure someone here knows exactly.

Hi Guiseppe,

You might post with the Racing or garage forums. Racing guys seem to know a bit about tires :-)

If they're tiny thin lines on the tread and they were new tires, I believe it is just some sort of label system. They should rub off after a bit of riding. Not sure what else it could be. Maybe call up the dealer and ask one of the "prep" mechanics. They put the bike together and should have information on new equipment. Let us know if it's something of concern.

Cheers,
Loonette

After a few minutes searching I found this site. I know it's talking about car tires, but I'm sure the marking system is similar. About half way down the page, there is a section on "Coloured Dots and Stripes"
