Hey, new to both motorcycles and the forum

#1 Unread post by DieMonkeys »

I'm interested in getting a motorcycle by the end of this summer (hopefully a bit before school starts up so I can get some time riding it). I've been interested in getting a bike for a long time, I've actually started saving for one twice, but my dad talked me out of it both times. This time I've got a budget and somewhat of an ideal bike picked out (a Nighthawk or something equivalent). My dad has been riding since way before I was born (I'll be 20 in July) and he'll be one of my main sources of information. I also plan on taking a local MSF well before I even start looking for bikes through the personal ads. I'm also hoping to get some gear before I get the bike as well. I've read through the beginners guide (http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/school.htm) and found it helpful. I look forward to posting and asking advice (like how to talk my girlfriend into riding with me [but not until I get a year's worth of riding under my belt, at least] and other things like good scenic places to ride). So, hello from Charleston, SC. (Anyone from there give me a PM, I'd be interested in having a good buddy to ride with when starting off).

Welcome to the site and good luck in your search for a bike. You're lucky to have your dad for a resource, I hope he's cool with the purchase. Also glad to see you have a head on those shoulders, planning in advance for some serious experience before going two up is a great idea.

Yeah, it's great, he's also told me that he'll even pay for my first batch of MSF lessons. I'd like to take it twice or if they have a slightly advanced course I'll take that.

Hi, I'm new to this site as well and a fairly new rider.

You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders and your priorities in order.

I found a used Suzuki Intruder fairly cheap. It was already bruised so I didn't mind dumping it a couple of times...which I have done!

Good luck finding a bike and be safe!
When everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
