The end of Helmet woes (mine anyway)

Some of you may remember I posted something about all the troubles I was having finding a modular hat that would actually fit. Here's the final report...

Nolan... $179.00. Great looking hat, fit well and seemed comfortable and well built... But! It uses a plastic quick clip strap retention set up that was a disaster. It went directly across my adams apple and felt like a plasitc knife digging into my throat.

Vega... $169.00. I wore this hat around the store for 45 minutes. Fit was good and it was confortable. It had a trough where the cheek pads and back pad met that funneled air straight up to your ears (seemed like it would be really loud). I tapped on the top of the helmet and it sounded like a ghetto blaster car playing rap. DUUUNG! It also rattled a ot.

KBC FFR... (Harley's helmet also) $269.00 and up. I wanted this helmet. It's been rated to 80 MPH with the face shield open! The only hat rated for riding with the chin bar in the open position. The closures are steel, not plastic. Very well built helmet, but a little heavier than most. I tried a large (my supposed size) and it was clearly too big. Today I got to try a medium. It seemed to fit really well, except I felt a pressure on the back of my head that I could tell would give me a stress headache after a while. Then I tried the "pull over" test. I was able to pull it off by rolling it from back to front. It did take a LOT of effort to do this, but it still came off.

HJC Symax... $279.00. This hat fit perfectly. I felt it well on the top of my head (the others seemed to not quite touch well). The padding is much better than the others and the covering is very soft and comfortable. I wore the hat in the store for about 45 minutes and it just felt better the longer I wore it. Peripheral vision was outstanding.

So I came home and went searching the internet for a deal. I got the HJC Symax in black and silver for $185.00 shipping included.

Why is this so stressful? I feel like I gave birth... LOL! This was almost as hard as buying the bike itself! At least it's done...

Congratulations on the helmet. I know what you mean by all the various comparisons with helmets. I was trying a few on a couple weeks ago and choosing one that actually fits well and doesn't hurt is so hard to do. I still haven't found a brand that feels 'right'.

Anyways make sure you use it and don't need it.
