Why are people like this born? (vandalism)

#1 Unread post by pat333 »

Ok I have a problem. I'm new to motorcycles and have just got my first bike, a Suzuki bandit 250, my pride and joy (and only means of transport). Recently when at a friends 21st some idiot guys decided it would be funny to wheel my bike around the side of the house and throw it down on some huge rocks, causing around $1.5-2k damage. I know who they are and they've admitted it to me but i have no witnesses so can't prove anything to the police and they're refusing to pay for repairs. Any ideas on what i can do? I'm looking for diplomatic solutions as well as cold blooded revenge, just any good or original ideas will be much appreciated. Does this happen to a lot of riders or am i just really unlucky?

Thanks, Pat

Yeah i've been to the police and although they're sympathetic there's nothing they can do without evidence.

Contact an attorney and sue them for damages, if they are they cowards they appear to be then they will crack. Then you can work on something with them to pay the damges. Even an attorneys letter will frighten them and let them know you are serious.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now

I don't know what you mean by "recently", but I'd still go to the same police department and file an official report. No matter how ridiculous it may feel at the onset, you should always file a police report. You're not asking them to file charges or anything like that - it's the best way to document your side of the story. Then, if you have full-coverage insurance, you present your insurance company with the police report, and they will contact those involved and attempt to redeem your deductible.

You don't have much to go on right now since some time has passed, but you should still make attempts to remedy this through proper channels. If it is questioned why you waited to file a police report, let them know that the officers dissuaded you from doing so, but now your insurance company requires it (even if they don't). You could also consider showing a photocopy of the police report to each person involved - that alone might get them to cough up some funds. You might not have anything legal going on yet, but they won't know that.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Loonette

Get a tape recorder, put it in your pocket, go and ask them to pay for the damages again. File the report with the police, even though they say they cant do anything.

Take the tape recorder to a small claims lawyer for one of their hour sessions and ask him what to do.

I agree. Even better would be waiting for him to get drunk, then kicking his "O Ring", cause well, he was a drunken idiot when it happened.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
