I have been back riding since November of last year and had not seen too many others out on the road until today; the first weekend day around here to break 70°F. It brought out a bunch of folks and gave me the first dose of Squids….more like an infestation to be honest..

..frankly, those guys can do want they want …..but what I didn’t like was being caught in the middle of about 10 of these squids going through multiple twisties; everyone wants/needs the same line through the bends. Caught myself being concerned about what was going on behind with the guy in the T-shirt up my pipes as much as getting myself through the corners correctly.

Looking for tips on the best way to handle this kind of harassment on the road....

avoid them.

if they ride too aggresively for your comfort, comeback there on a diff day.

if the place is a squid hangout all the time... then look for a diff place to practice.

were they as squidly as this guy?

Just slow way down, move to the far-right of your lane, and wave them past you. That's all. Do NOT speed up and attempt to get away from them or you'll just end up going too fast into a turn yourself.

Yeah, that's what I do, pull to the right and wave for them to pass. They don't want to hit you any more then you want them to hit you, and you'll be out of "the best line." So they should make it around you no worries. After that you just pick up where you left off, they're probably going faster then you anyways.

So anyone that rides faster than you is a squid?

On known motorcycling roads the same ettiquite applies as does on a racetrack. If you are going slower than someone else, get out of their way. You are spoiling their ride as much as they are yours by holding your line.

I figured things woudn't stay nice for long....guess you have all seen too much of the Squid BS on the road.

On this occasion the guy behind was so close I didn't like to slowing down ...but it seems like the best thing to do if you can get it done safely...I kind of rode it out to a straightaway...then they were gone...whoooosh...but I gotta tell ya I was not in my comfort zone for a while. So I wish I had kaltrops handy, I think they would be easier to throw than rocks...but don't they only work for Ninjas?

Verm...I was in NY ..so the guy behind had Helmet and T for "protection" ...and more body hair

Nope. I know lots of good rideres who are quicker than me, but then I have this whole keeping my licence clean thing going on.

Maybe if they were motorcycle only one way roads - but conditions in the real world arent like that. If someone is eating my pipes because he wants my line for the turn he can back off until we are on a straight away - then I'll move over and allow him* to pass safely.

However I'm not going to bungle the corner because some knuckle dragging ape is trying to intimidate me. End of the day if we touch we are both coming off, I wear gear for that reason and as the rear ender he'll be liable for my damage.


* Sexist I know, but a lot of the bikes behainvg this way are ridden by men. As a species women are generally more sensible.
