Not even a Newbie .... yet! (Sacramento)

#1 Unread post by JediNut »

Well, it's taken 5 years of putting up with "bring home a motorcycle and the divorce papers will be on the kitchen table waiting for your signature," but I have finally gotten my wife to increase the life insurance and let me succumb to my mid-life crisis!

I am going to be 45 this year and have NEVER ridden anything bigger than a mini-bike when I was 16...and I only did that once!

I have my mind set on a cruiser (no "donor cycle" for me!) I *really* like the Victory Kingpin and Vegas models, but after listening to everyone's advice in the "New Bikers Forum", I have decided that I'll start off a bit smaller...like a used Yamaha V-Star.

I am taking the local MSF course in a couple of weeks, then I'll start shopping for my Father's Day present!!!

So...if you are riding around in the Rocklin/Roseville, CA area (near Sacramento) this summer, and you see a tall, clueless guy on a cruiser...have pity on him..cuz it just might be ME!

I'm looking forward to hearing what bike you come down with for your first. And what you think of the MSF. I'll post my thoughts when i finish it up this weekend...

LOL Good for you!

Good choice - and remember, you're first bike won't be your last. So you can learn and practice on the VStar and then move up if you feel you need to.

Well, I won't be but good luck in the course, have fun and ride safe!

Welcome to the board.

Many a man before you have faced the 'We'll cut your tuition/our marriage/your funding/your (blank) if you buy a motorcycle' test.

Some pass, some don't, some give up. You have passed, congratulations! (now I just hope I can pass when my test comes...)

I think the V-star is kind of a small bike IIRC. Might wanna try sitting on one at a dealership first.
Have fun on the open /¦\

HEY!!..PEOPLE MIGHT CONFUSE YOU WITH ME!!

I ride a shadow ace around sacramento, am a big guy and been told i'm cluelesss...

I got my first bike 3 days before xmas, took the class, and been waiting for the weather to clear....of course I did commute with it for three days of rain & cold last week becuase the car died...

for me, size (more physical dimensions than CC's) cost, isurance where the main factors...I took over a year to find my 1100 ace and even then it was a rescue...(repaired salvage) that with a little TLC has been a real champ...DMV inspectors when I registered it could not believe it was in that good of shape.

Hey, I was one of those wives and now I ride my own, there is hope for all of us! Ofcourse you know she's hoping that you hate the class and don't buy anything. Taking the MSF class is a great way to start off. Let us know how that works out for you.

As far as the "organ donor" bike, any bike can be dangerous.

JediNut...welcome....enjoy your time in the saddle....but be safe... Hope to see you in the area....I ride everyday...in area. Either my big Harley...or my 250cc scooter commuter. Love riding...especially in this area. I could no longer stand the great weather yesterday (Weds)..left work earlier...and took a ride 120 miles and two hours later...bugs in my teeth and a smile that would not go away!!!

I live in Folsom....drop me a line after you pass your class...if you want to explore the foothills around here!!!!!

the ride on the Big Ruckus is fun. It is manly my commuter....can't beat 65 to 70 per gallon...especially when it only takes less than three gallons to fill it every 160 to 180 miles....

The best part is watching people reactions...most people like it...give me the thumbs up. Other are like what is it a motorcycle or a scooter....

The best part is when people see me on it...then a few days later recongize me on my Harley...and they are like....ummmm....and I say yes...that was me.
