Kangaroo leather?

I've noticed that alot of leather jackets/pants of late are made out of kangaroo leather. I heard some site say that they offered "double the abrasion resistance that cowhide leather offers" or something like that. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, is that the only benefit?

the most common reason i heard is that they offer the same protection as 1.4mm cowhides but very light.

so weight is the only reason why they're better than cowhide.

don't get motoGP brand though... i heard the stitching isn't good and only 1 crash and they break apart easily. so im guessing that's why you can get it for only $800... most kangaroo suits are around $1500.

I've not heard anything positive or negative about MotoGP's quality. First one I noticed though was the $2700 Dainese kangaroo leather suit...youch!

teknic's speedstar and alpinestars racing replica are high quality brands and those 2 are their top of the line suits and is made from kangaroo leather.

you can get them around $1500 online. still expensive but not as much as the dainese.

They've been using kangaroo leather for years with soccer/futbol cleats. The only benefit that I've noticed with kangaroo are weight reduction and less break-in time. The downside is longevity - esp. if moisture is introduced. Kangaroo leather is very sensitive and break down much quicker than cowhide. Also, it's beaucoup expensive.
