A certain bike theft gave me an idea

#1 Post by < I Fly > »

It would be kind of fun to run a bike theft sting operation.

Basically, have a person park an appealing looking bike in a high crime area, like where the Russian mafia operate.
For reasons I will make clear, the bike would actually be a crappy old thing but dressed up in new fairings.

The bike would have a squid looking rider on it put it there, leave the engine running while he went in some place for a beer or something.
Most likely a person would come and try and steal it, but what the idiot wouldn't realize is there would be someone watching, controlling a remote front brake unit.

The "owner" of the bike would come running after the thief as he tried to get away and of course the thief would make a hasty escape, but then the person operating the remote brake would make the thief do the STOPPIE OF DOOM.
This would save the sting ops the legal hassles inherent in beating the living dodo out of the thief.
The remote brake unit would quickly be plucked off the bike and it would be simply a matter of "oh, the thief clearly didn't know what he was doing."

As a way of ensuring the thief is good and dead, the bike could actually have a remote throttle unit too, so as to force speeds of at least 60 mph before the stoppie activates.

Neat idea huh?

good idea. i will gladly come help video tape this. i dont even think you would have to remove the stuff from the bike. if someone is riding/stealing your bike without permission they deserve whatever they get. (thats why i think if more people caught a blast or 2 from a 12 gauge in the chest breaking into homes the crime rate might go down a bit)

what are they gonna do? sue you?

Theif- "your honor, i saw the guy park his bike and walk away so i went over to ride it away and he made me flip over the handlebars by remote control"
Judge- "so you were stealing his bike?"
Theif- "yea but..."
Judge- "give him the chair!"
Courtroom- *applause*

No actually he probably would sue you, and for quite a bit of money, and successfully (especially if you had a remote brake!). In fact the thief would probably sue you if he just had an accident on the bike while stealing it.

Welcome to America.

Sigh.

And you know he's right too. But we all know it'd be fun to watch/operate.

Most bikes get lifted into a vehicle and carted away if they're being stolen.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

There was a story a couple years ago about a group of guys in Europe doing just that. They would leave the "bait" and wait in hiding. When the thief tried to steal the bike, they would jump him and then beat the living crap out of him!
