Helmet shopping

I already read the "Helmet Fit Guidelines" and i really liked it. but I was woundering about a few things. how does this whole A/C helmet work? and are there any brands i should trust more than another? I see a lot of the same helmets where ever i go but I don't know much about them.

Howdy,
All helmets (that are DOT / Snell approved) are guaranteed a good mnimum level of protection. However helmets aren't rated above that. so potentially a £50 helmet could protect better that a £200 helmet. So you are best looking for a well fitting helmet with the approval stickers. However more expensive helmets, may have handy extras like flip down sunshades, etc.

I'm going with a full face. I can't bare to think of myself wearing one of thous dinky chopper helmets

Does anyone know anything about THH helmets? I'm thinking of getting one as a spare (I had this post in another forum). I'm just not trusting the low low price. $44 brand new on my doorstep. That is a discount price, but the MSRP is only $55. They are DOT apporved so I suppose that should be good enough, right?

From what I understand, one major of the price differential is about brand name or major supporter for racer. Put that aside, the more expensive might provide you more feature and use better material. What to consider when buying helmet, in my opinion, thou.
Fit, Weight, Size (cheap brand will have one size fit all, but expensive brand will have a couple size molds for their series helmet), Vent, Foggy (some cheap brand trend to have fog build up).

To comparision, I bought HJC Symax (flip face) which is the price about in the middle between expensive brand and cheap stuff. All around is a good helmet but one major problem for me is pulling head at high speed. I might have to get some like SHOEI or ICON which I've heard have no problem about that.

I must admit, I'm not mad keen on the idea of mail ordering a helmet, as they're only good for so many knocks.... however I suppose they should be packed well, and aslong as the box isn't damaged when it turns up, why not.... Only thing worth remembering is to try a helmet on in a shop, before you mail order it, as it might not be the correct fit

I ended up getting a Shoei RF-1000. I had an HJC which was ok, but the Shoei was great. With the HJC I was wearing a helmet and knew it. It made my neck tired after long periods of wearing it, and generally wasn't as well vented or comfy. I actually forget I'm wearing the Shoei. It's really light, has awesome ventilation, and the wind doesn't push my head around nearly as bad. It was really expensive, $350, but it was worth it to me. I didn't buy it because it was a Shoei though. I bought it because out of the 20+ helmets I tried on at the shop, it was the most comfortable. I would advise that you not buy a helmet you haven't tried on. Even if you find a good price online, make sure you can go try one on somewhere in person before you order it.

All that being said, I fully endorse a Shoei RF-1000. If it fits the shape of your head, then it's really hard to beat.
