The Perfect Bike for the Job

#1 Unread post by boristheblade73 »

OK, finally I've gotten my pops to agree to get us a proper bike for our summer house up north. I'm not totally sure what would be ideal though, given the terrain of the place. The place we live in is at the end of a very badly maintained and very steep dirt road/gravel road. I can't emphasize enough how steep it is. Then once you're off of that, then there are roads that are absolutely perfect, large sweeping turns, lots of fun etc. Personally, I would fancy a ninja 250 or maybe a gixxer someday for the road, but I would think I'd have to be a bit more skilled than I am to get a bike like that up this hill. Maybe it's a lot easier than I imagine, maybe not. The solution I came to was a supermoto bike, which would be cool, but bear in mind I wanna have some fun when I get out on the road. which basically means I just want a bike that has a good sounding, smooth engine with a wide powerband and a good amount of power. Maybe I'm absolutely going to have to have a bike with knobby tires on it. Hopefully not. Could I learn to get a sportbike up this stupid hill? Enlighten me with experience.

One of the small dual sports. There are some really nice bikes for just the sort of area you are talking about.

Kaw KLX250S
Suz DR200SE
etc...

Those with bigger engines tend to be very tall...

You don't need a sportbike to have fun with... even fun around corners. Any bike is fun, especially when you start out.

Yah I'd recommend a dual sport bike. It'll go off road to an extent (sounds like enough for what you want it to do) and is still street legal.

I'm not sure I see your thought process as you leap from an EX250 to a GSXR but it'd be a bad idea. On either bike.

Riding in sand/dirt with a street bike = no.
Have fun on the open /¦\
