So I've read the helmet fitting guide and will definatly use it when going into the shop to try on the helmets I've been researching (trouble is finding a shop with them stocked) anyway I've narrowed it down to a couple different models/makes and I was wondering if anyone had any good reviews.

The Shoei RF-1000
and the KBC Force RR

So far I like the look and the price of the KBC more but the local store doesnt carry any. I also like the KBC removable liner. I realize that its all about fit but I wanna find reviews so I can compare the drag/ventilation/noise of each helmet.

I've only seen one review for the Shoei at totalmotorcycle.com

This is going to be my first helmet as well as first bike so I want to do it right

Also can anyone recomend a good company for gear like gloves, jackets, etc.. and not to expensive.

And this is my first post, after trolling the forums for awhile. This is a great site lots of usefull information

no one here is going to be able to tell you what will work best for you. everyones head is different. you just gotta find a shop with some in stock and try em all on.

Like Handsome said... It's all about fit. I've just finished my quest for the right hat too. It took me 3 months to find the fit in the style I wanted because, like you said, the dealers selection leaves a lot to be desired. I went allo over town and tried every hat I could find and finally got the fit... Then I bought online and saved about $100 on it.

Hang in there... just remember that Humans are hunters... and this IS the hunt!

Has a few RF-1000 reviews. Might wanna read the HJC reviews as well.

The problem on HJCs seems to be that the visor rips open (not off, just open) when your turn your head at highway speeds (shoulder checks) and that it's loud.

But they say the RF-1000 is loud too. But lighter.

I know its all about fit but I hear things like noise and the aerodynamics of the helmet can really make a ride unbearable. I'm a pilot and I know how much little things can affect the ride and thats why I'm looking for reveiws about the things that a fit wont cover, like noise, drag etc. Hopeing to get as much info as I can. Sorry if that sounded a little ill towards your post but its not

I have an RF1000 and it is the loudest helmet I have owned (Arai and Suomy previously).
They are very light and the vents are fantastic, hence the noise unfortunately.

So basically the better the vents the more noise?

Which is better for comforts sake less noise or better ventalation

Depends on your climate. If you're in a hot area then ventilation.

But I'm in Texas and I still think I'm gonna go for a quieter helmet. Just seems safer to me.

I wanna hear the cars around me, not the wind coming at me. I know the wind is there, it's the 2-4 ton blocks that I'm worried about.

Around town there is never a problem as the vents help with hearing traffic, yet at speed for extended periods on the highway the wind noise gets to you.

It's like anything, you get what you pay for. Ask yourself what your life is worth in terms of safety gear and go from there. I don't want to get on my soapbox and preach. I know guys are hard pressed to stretch their dollar, but consider spending a little more for something quality that will properly protect you and last a long time as opposed to buying something cheap and ineffective - you'll be glad you did.
