Just curious how many people run their gear on synthetic.

Mobil-1 10w40 in the engine

Mobil-1 75w90 in the rear differential

Soon to be Valvoline synthetic brake fluid

Mr ZooTech, That Mean Streak is a nice bike, please don't use Mobil 1, use Amsoil, go to amsoil.com and read the test results, they test all major brands of motor oil, and some of the conventional, cheap brands that are non-synthetic test higher than Mobil 1. If you switch to Amsoil you will notice cooler running engine, smoother shifting, less engine noise, better gas milage, quicker starting, and yes a higher top speed. A few years ago I thought the same thing that no motor oil can make that big of a difference, then a friend turned me on to Amsoil, now im addicted to Amsoil, im a Amsoil junkie, no I don't sell it, you can buy it at dealers or online. It will take me forever to explain to you why Amsoil is a better synthethic, the simple way to explain it, by law you can classify any type of oil a synthetic just so every molecule is the exact same, like a motor oil mfg. can bottle roofing tar and call it a synthetic just so every molecule is the same.

I run 3 old bikes - 1991 , 1991, 1982.

As a rule I use synthetic in the bike I ride most (The BMW) the others get Dino Oil. I DO run synthetic in my cars.

I agree with Mr. F150 about AMSOIL, however it's difficult to get ahold of in some places and it's also very expensive. I think it's a MUST-HAVE for anyone with an expensive Air-Cooled bike (Read - Harley) but on a liquid cooled ride it's not as terribly important. It has unbelievable cooling capabilities.

Just my I've been known to have opinions on oil that are outside accepted beliefs tho ...

I appreciate the concern, Moto, but I have done my research as well. I agree that Amsoil is probably the best synthetic oil on the market today. However, on Amsoil's own website you will find a comparison between it and Mobil-1, and Mobil-1 is so close to being as good as Amsoil that it becomes a non-issue. Since Mobil-1 is sold at every bike dealer and gear dealer in my area, it's rather easy for me to purchase versus ordering Amsoil online and paying the rediculous shipping charges. Both Amsoil and Mobil-1 are light years ahead of everything else available, and Mobil-1's convenient availability easily makes up for the insignificant disadvantage it has to Amsoil.

I use mobil 1, its fine. I'd probably be using regular, but I use Mobil 1 for brand-type preference only. I use in the cars, why not the bike, shucks. I change it as regularly scheduled. My oil preference may have a noticable impact after 50k miles but I doubt I will own the bike for that long.

My bike shifts better, holds oil better, etc with Mobil 1 compared to regular. Thats probably 95% in my head. Give me 2 identical bikes with synthetic vs regular in them, I couldn't tell the difference, nor could most people me thinks.

My bike only cost 2k, not worth worrying about much. 25k harley, maybe I'd worry about the oil.

But I hgave to qualify. I have a 2-stroke, and I run Klotz 2-stroke streek bike fully synthetic.
