Ok, here is a bike I am looking at...yeah its a big engine however I think it has about 56hp so it's not over the top.

Downside, 40k on the ticker. That seems very high miles. Or is it a mater on how it was taken care of?

Matter of how it's taken care of.

A lot of bikes can get well over 100k miles. I think a few have been taken over 200k? Or maybe I'm just making that up.

So, maybe that bike would be worth checking out then?

He says he has owned it for over 14 years now.

I guess there is one way to find out....go out there and check it out:)

Go out and have a look indeed. But get it checked over by a mechanic first. Standard procedure is for both parties to split the bill.

40k miles over a 26 year period is less than 2k miles per year. So it hasn't been run ragged but it hasn't exactly been run a lot either.

Unless it's 140k miles but I doubt that.

Definitely how it was taken care of / maintained, my brother's 1982 Harley Lowrider has 65000 miles on its original motor.
