86 fj1200, 26k, decent cosemetic condition minus a rusty exhaust and old vance and hines muffler. The seating position feels perfect for me!
Brand new rubber on the front , and new rear tire I need to get installed.
Got the bike for a very good deal, now I just need to get my nighthawk sold this week

I admit, I dont know much about these bikes, just that i'd always wanted one. I was planning on getting a newer bandit, but I came across this this weekend, and I couldnt pass up the price.

Well, could try grinding it down and using high temp black enamal paint.

yea im not sure what I'll do about the exhaust yet. It looked pretty bad, but might benefit from a cleaning. A new v&h system for it appears to be about $380. I'm not sure if anyone else makes one.

It actually leaks a little bit out of the bottom until the bike gets warmed up, then it goes away. I'll probably try welding it shut for a temporary fix until I can afford a new system.

Either way, I only paid just over a grand for the bike, so I think I got a deal. The engine sounds great, everything works, the the plastics are decent, although not perfect.

I'm happy.

Do a google search for FJ1100/1200. I had one up until last January when I got hit from behind. The FJ is a great bike. It's a behemouth to move around the corners, but it can be done. They run like a raped ape, too!

Congrats on the new ride. I miss my FJ... but I've been adequately consoled by my FZ1.

Mine's a '90, but they are all basically the same bike. It eats long stretches of hiway as quickly as you dare and you will be comfortable doing it, and corners way better than a 550+ lb bike has a right too. That front wheel carries alot of weight and is planted.

Supertrapp makes a complete exhaust for these bikes, and it is the only system other than stock that allows access to the oil plug without removal. Everything else I have ever seen has to be completely removed to change the oil, something I'm unwilling to do. I'm looking for a used Supertrapp for mine. The stock system is nice and quiet, with a nice sound when you honk on it, but it's fairly heavy.

The fairings and bodywork are made from ABS plastic and is brittle as hell. Careful anytime you have to work with them. I've heard reports of a vibrational-type buzz at certain RPM, but I've never noticed it on mine. It is an air-cooled, big-bore motor and it makes a fair bit of mechanical clatter at idle, but that disappears as you start moving. You will roast your nads in stop-n-go traffic when it's hot out, the sidepanels have vents in just the wrong place for this, but it's nice when it's cooler out.

I am pretty happy with mine, it is a good mix of long range comfort and decent corning. It has nice low-end power, very torquey for an inline 4, and it gets up and flucks off in a big hurry when you honk on it.

I like them. Comfy. A little bit hard to turn (but part of the reason was that when i rode one, i forgot to take the choke off, so no throttle control at low RPM ) and quick. Didn't get a chance to take it out of the parking lot though.

Looks really good, AND it's not purple that's worth 3 bonus points.
