So what will corner faster: a car or a bike?

depends on the car and the bike.
Theoretically, cars have more traction which should let them corner faster, assuming that the car has a very good suspension. Bike's have less traction, so theoretically can't corner as fast, but make up for it with acceleration.
There was a shootout between a Lamborghini Gallardo and a Ducati 999. The lambo took the turns a little faster, but the ducati still came out on top..
So yes, the car took the corners quicker, but it is also a $120k car... and the Ducati is a little over $12k My money goes on bikes for money-performance ratio.

Yeah, I've seen that video, it's pretty neat. But yes, in theory, a car will corner faster. Buuuutttt.... it also depends on the vehicles and the riders/drivers, as well has the road.

those guys at 5th gear did another vs.
it's between a 2006 gixxer1000 and they used a car that is a lot better than the lambo to match the gixxer.
anyway... the gixxer lost. i forgot what car is it. it looks like an F1 type car but it's totally street legal.
cars can really corner better than bikes in general.

The Gixxer probably lost because 4 cylinder bikes always lose in the corner games.
Bet the Duke would have beat whatever car it was, because its strength is hauling "O Ring" out of corners.

But "F1 type car" do you mean the Mclaren F1? Because that is street legal, and last time I checked it was the fastest street legal car, stock.

good vid. quick question couldnt they just try to lower the bike more in an effort to keep it down instead of poping up for a wheelie

i think it will mess up the suspension settings if they lower it and thus will affect cornering.
plus, 5th gear test stock cars and bike unless im mistaken. so modding is out of the question.

Lowering it wouldn't really prevent the wheelies anyway... you would have to extend the swingarm, or try to shift weight up front. That totally messes with the steering geometry though. Also, if you lower it, you will reduce the cornering clearance.
With that much power, raising the front wheel is just a part of the package. Those twins sure are great for pulling out of the corners though!
Also verm, you said "cars can really corner better than bikes in general." But honestly, that isn't true. With sportbikes, you can corner better than 99% of the cars on the road. The cars that can beat the sportbikes cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. So in general, no, it isnt true. In theory it is true. Most cars on the road lack the suspension setup, the proper tires, and the acceleration to keep up through the corners.
I know for a fact I would slide off the road in my car if I tried to corner at the same speed I can in my interceptor. My car also cost 7 times as much.
There is a huge gap between price and performance when comparing cars and bikes. Dollar for dollar, the bike will always win.
