Ok, so this week I've been riding my bike around my neighborhood for practice. I've been spending hours just going back and forth through my neighborhood, so I will have everything down when I get my license (hopefully this weekend). I live in a pretty small neighborhood, so I go down the exact same streets over, and over again. Well, tonight when I was riding around, some guy comes out of his house, and waves me down. So I stop, fip up my visor to see what he wants. He starts telling me how he doesn't want me riding around that part of the neighborhood, because his neighbors I guess are complaining about me riding on that street. He kept going on and on about how I was going too fast, and how I was going to run over his kids or something, which is ridiculous. I never went more then 20 mph in on that street, and I know most cars go at least 30. I am definitely not going to run over his kids, when I see anything (kids, dogs, squirrels, whatever) I slow down to like 15 with my hand over the brake just in case. The kids love it, because I wave at them every time I go by, and they're smart and stay to one side of the street when they see me coming, and get all excited when I come by. But this guy is telling me I can't ride on that street. "fudge" that. I have as much right to be there as he does. He's not the president of the homeowner's association (we don't even have one), so what right does he have to tell me where I can and can't ride?

Buttt, I'm going to stop riding over there because I don't have a license yet (I'm riding around the neighborhood for practice) and I don't want this guy calling the cops, and have them ask me for my license.

Does anyone else have douche bag neighbors like this?

Once you're legal, you can ride where you want. You pay taxes just like him. So don't instigate, just ride, and wave to him.

Ride right passed his house, give him a wave, and blip the throttle just for him. Then go about your business.

Lol, that's exactly what I plan on doing, once I get my license (well... at least once, then I'll be riding on the road).

Amazing amount of gall. Do everything you're doing now, except maybe go get a learner's permit if you don't have one.

This guy needs a flaming bag of dog-excrement on his front porch.

Personally I think riding on quiet residential streets for practice prior to getting a license to be generally okay.

However, you don't yet have your license and until you do you're breaking the law regardless of how innocuous the situation is. I personally would avoid that particular area until you do have your license. There are plenty of other residential streets to practice on that will keep you away from that guy. Otherwise, he can have your "O Ring" nabbed.

Conversely, when you get your license and assuming you obey driving laws you can go down his street as you please and if he were smart he'd stay quiet.

First of all I would get a learners permit or whatever you need to be legal in your state. Once I had that I'd go to town.

I would drive by that douche's house everyday bipping the throttle and waving to him until he apologizes or moves. Even if it takes 5yrs.

You have as much right to be on the road as anyone else.
