Question for my first Bike!

What is a good starting bike for a complete newbie? I ask this because I feel pretty unsure as to what a newbie rider can handle and what he cant. Friend of mine was saying the Kawasaki Ninja was a safe bet, but I dont know... Could someone give me some insight!

The ninja is ok if it's a 250r (ex250) or a 500r (ex500). The 650r is iffy.

And don't forget to look into Rider Safety Courses. You can find a couple links in my signature or try your state's dmv site for information on rider safety.
Start going to dealerships and sitting on different types of bikes. That should help you narrow down your choices as well.

I would suggest a dual sport bike as a beginner bike The Suzuki DRZ400S, DR650, Kawasaki KLR250 or 650, or the Honda XL650R, all offer a normal seat and handlebar postion, can handle any speed limit for street riding, built extra heavy duty, if you tip it over these bikes are light enough to pick up yourself, plus the fun factor, you can take it off road and get crazy with these bikes.

See this appeals to me just because these bikes seems pretty decent! I would probably start off with a 250 though
so as not to kill myself

you can still kill yourself w/ a 250.
im not saying to get a bigger bike. im just hoping you were
really really kidding when you said the reason you want a 250 is to avoid killing yourself.

go with a SV650s,.... thats my personal favorite, off road is for dirtbikes.

Thanks for the kudos. Saves me the trouble of having to tell folks to go there.
I am working on a .PDF file of that page on my site for people to download and/or to email to folks so they can have a nice little brochure/document on learning to ride too.
