What kind of battery do I need for an 86 nighthawk 450?

Do they sell it at sears, advanced auto parts, or walmart?

look in your haynes/clymer/chiltons manual.
if you dont have one of those, measure the one you have, and get a 12v one that fits. Advanced Auto or whatever you have in your area should have somehting that fits.

Walmart carries them, that's where I bought mine. You can just use their little computer to find out which battery you need.

Same with Advanced Auto & AutoZone-- they can look it up based on the year and model.

Just be carefil charing it. Ideally you want a 1.75 amp charger... 2 amps is right at the border a 6 will destroy your new battery.

Yep. I filled it with the sulfuric acid, then let it charge for 10 hours on 2 amps, then filled it again. It's a pain, but that's what the instructions say to do, so that's what I did.

"Sealed" batterys are even more fun. The battery for my wifes Buell requires you to fill it with a special concoction of acid that hardens then you cap it and charge it up.
