Tank bags question...

For those of you who use tank bags -
Do you like the strap down style or the magnetic ones?
Do most styles of bag cover up your gas cap so you have to remove the bag to fill up?
I have a backpack that I use, but I'd like a tank bag for times when I only need to carry a few small items.

I prefer the straps. I know that the magnetic ones grip firmly but I never trusted them. Plus I carry my wallet in my tank bag and was worried about my credit cards.
Yes you have to release the tank bag to fill up. Takes about 3 seconds. Just release the front strap and flip it back.
Personally, I won't wear a backpack on a bike. If you do fall off the stuff in the backpack can not be good for your spine.
Once you get used to a tank bag, you will rarely, if ever, leave home without it.

I've been looking at tank bags as well. I thought that
MotoPak Luggage looked pretty good. They've got some luggage on eBay. There are also a lot of other alternatives on there as well. I'm looking for a bag that converts into a backpack for when I'm off the bike. MotoPak, Icon, TourMaster and others have them available.
Anyone have suggestions or opinions about any of the "convertables"?

i've got a cortech magnetic one. I dont worry about it going anywhere because it also clicks into a strap that go around the handlebars. The credit card issue is probably a valid worry, though my bag has compartments for that stuff on the top of it, well away from the magnet.
i've wondered too about those bags that convert to a bagpack, because carrying around a tank bag when you're not on the bike is kinda a pain.
i actually havnt used mine as much recently because i carry a messenger bag with my laptop in it, and i dont need the extra space.

I have a strap-down tank bag since my "tank" is really just a plastic airbox cover (my fuel is in the frame of the bike). I love it although it can be a pain when getting gas. Also, depending on the style bag and bike you have... they can sorta get in the way of seeing the "dash".

don't you have to carry your bag everywhere you go then?

If you have anything valuable in it... yeah.

Does Icon make a quality product?
I'm looking at this bag. I carry the wallet in my pocket so I'm not worried about credit cards getting wrecked, etc.
It also comes with mesh straps to turn it into a backpack.

Never used them, but they have the most impressive designs I've seen and fantastic customer service (when I emailed them with a question, the owner of the company replied within a few hours).
