ok, so last night after a hard day of pretending to work but really just surfing TMW forums, and sneaking next door to grab free a copy of the latest copy of 2 wheel tuner and C&D magazines, i am going with my sweet-honey-baby to meet some old college freinds (yea i dropped out) about 100ish miles away for a pancake eating contest at IHOP (international house of pancakes for anyone who doesnt have one yet)

so we are going to leave my truck here and take her 99 pontiac sunfire gt convertable (definate chick car but it got more Oomph than i would expect from that motor) so i am driving it on the interstate, top down, just cruising. Bear in mind i used to drive this stretch of road from my parents home to the town the college is in every weekend for 2 years. so we get to the place where there are NEVER any cops (its going up abotu a 4% grade and i guess they think people wont speed up a hill?) but there are some nice level spots and its between cities so theres not much traffic. i have set land speed records in my truck at this place, so im in a new set of wheels, a convertable no less, and im like-

lets open her up a bit...

ok sothe 2.4 inline 4 doesnt pull like the 5.9L small block in the truck but thats to be expected. we are "slowly" gaining speed and suddenly it feel like it shifted gears again? im like :wtf: , we are pegged at 4k RPM's and slowly loosing speed (probably doign about 103ish? :flame: )so at 99mph, we are pegged and rev limiteed so until we get to the downhill section on the other side to the cumberland plateau, thats as fast as we are goign to go.

i hate rev limiters.

*note, all of this was performed by professional drivers on a closed course, do not attempt or you could be injured or killed*

I've never heard of a rev limiter on a car before. That is kind of weird I think. I know mine doesn't as I accidently missed a shift and went into the red when I was still learning. That sucks though. I would hate that, and I love that disclaimer at the end

GM puts speed limiters (not really rev limiters) in many of their cars/trucks. I had a '97 S10 w/ a 2.4l inline four... it was fine up to about 94MPH at which point it would stumble like it was running out of fuel....

I know the Chrysler Sebring has a speed limiter that stops it at the same general speed.

Is it safe to come out?
Go GTA on them and hope their cars blow up?
