Gas got you down? Here's $100...

The proposal (rejected btw) included giving every taxpayer $100, to help 'ease gas prices'.

Huh? For one, the people who received this money were folks with incomes up to 220,000 a year for a married couple (about half for a single guy). Now if a single person is raking in 110K a year, what the heck does giving him $100 matter? He's not hurting because of gas prices.

The people who are hurting are the poor, the ones who rely on their cars to drive them to their minimum wage jobs, retirees who depend on their social security checks and stiff budgets to get by.

This is just a ridiculous move by the Republicans to try to repair all the damage Bush has done to their party. November is creeping up and they're scared, so what better way than to use high gas prices to show Americans that Republicans care.

I dont need $100 to buy some extra gas with  ...take all that money and divide it up and give a larger portion to the people who need it, families with incomes less than 40K. Not 240K.

Oh and you'll also be seeing a temporary drop in gas prices and both candidates claiming it was their doing by some magical means.

2 weeks after election time. 'Oops, a uh...ummm...dragon! YAh that's it! A dragon blew up the gas lines in Iraq! And all the gas in the world burned! Luckily we have some right here for $3.60 a gallon...if you're interested.'

I read recently that the poverty level in San Diego county is 26k/year. I make less than half of that, and I'm technically management. So if 26k is impoverished, what's 12k? Sounds to me like I should be living in a box or something :frusty:
