Narrow brush with DEATH

So I'm riding on the final stretch of road toward my place and suddenly I look down and see a strange object that looks like part of a tire on the road.
This might actually just be part of someone's tire but then again it could be something from MY ride.

Anyway I was going about 70 around this turn and pretty fast around the final straightaway before I turn into my complex, and when I grab the front brake I get NOTHING.
It's all squish.

So obviously I just use the engine and rear brake to cut speed, and pull home with no incident, but still... that was weird.
Then for no apparent reason the feel in the brake returns and it starts working again.

What's up with that?
I am going to ride around on this thing pretty conservatively until I get it looked at.

Don't ride that bike till you bleed the brakes!

You either have low brake fluid levels, have air in the brake lines which will cause a soft brake or have a leak causing fluid loss. :| I'm guessing if you lost em temporarily - you need to bleed the brakes like High Side said.

Anyone have any idea why air would suddenly enter the brakes like that?

sure, you have a leak somewhere. Maybe a slow one, but there must be a leak.

Possible but considering how suddenly the problem occurred it weirds me out.

I'll probably take it over to the shop tomorrow and see what they say.
