Salvage Title Advice

OK I really could use some good advice here...

I'm looking at buying a 2004 Yamaha R1 / 3000 miles / Power commander / grave exhaust (1400.00) / Awesome condition

The problem:
The bike was stolen last year and recovered. From what I understand, all the parts where taken off the bike. The Owner purchased it back form insurance company, and had it completely rebuilt. The bike looks awesome and was never in a crash. Perfect condition! Because of this, it now has a salvage title.

I really need adivce..

He wants 7200.00 for the bike (no helmet). I really want the bike but still i'm very scared about the resale. Hes been having problem selling it i'm sure and I would image I would when it came time for me to sell. Would I be making a big mistake for paying that much for a salvage title bike? (keeping in mind it was never in an accident)

Should I offer a lower amount? Is that amount right? what could I sell it for in a year or so?

So nervous.....
What should I do????

Im attaching a pic of the bike. Let me know what you think.

Thanks fellas

If the guy is having a hard time selling it, he will, in all likelihood, go lower. Offer him less. The worst he can say is no. Never pay asking price.

Sorry,

I should have been mention this..

Hes asking 7500....I got him down to 7200. I don't think he will go any lower. Should I buy even though it has salvage though? Dang why did the insurance company have to total the bike after theft!?!?!?!

If it's such a nice bike, and he's sunk sooooo much money into it (upgrading it, getting it stolen, buying it back, and getting it fixed) why is he selling it?

No, this is my second bike. Although its been about 3 years since I last rode. Yeah, hes got a arai helmet that he doesnt want to sell...but I want him to throw it in.

He selling the bike because of the "kids" and the fact hes too busy to ride anymore. He did say hes not in a major rush to sell...that he could go either way and not sell it at all.

So you guys think I should pass on it? What would you offer to buy (knowing the details)

here i post link to to picture of bike...let me know what you guys think of the bike and what it could be worth...

well, if he really can go either way then let it go, otherwise drop your offer down to 6500 or lower.. if u ever wanna sell it, that title will get in the way like crazy.. also, what was your first bike? the R1(180hp) is a LOT of bike.

Also I think some insurance companies will not insure something with a salvage title. You may want to check.

Yeah, i doubt he will do it...but i'll try for 6500. My first bike was a 600 f4i. Had it for almost 3 yrs and couldnt wait to get rid of it. That was 4 sure not enough bike for me. I'm ready for r1.

Shoot...theres no way this guy will bite at 6500. I'll try though.

I do plan on selling after 7or 8 months.. By that time I would probably try to get 5000 for it. Think I'll have a hard time a year from now trying to get 5k for this 2004 (=!!!never crashed!!!)salvaged r1 with probably 8000 miles?
