Looking for some input on the v-twin sport bikes

I've ridden a lot of different bikes, cruisers, crotch rockets, sport tourers, ect. The one thing about a bike that attracts me most is the way it delivers its power. I like a bike with massive low and mid RPM power. This is what turns me off about the vast majority of sport bikes. Their inline four powerplants just don't start making any decent power until they get up into the higher RPM range. Now I have ridden several v-twin cruisers that pack a pretty impressive bottom end punch like the VTX, the 2000 Vulcan, and the Road Warroir. I love the way they deliver power!

The one type of bike I've never ridden is any of the v-twin sport bikes. I've heard bikes like the Honda VTR 1000 Superhawk, the Suzuki SV 1000, and the Suzuki TL 1000 provide an incredible amount of low and mid range RPM acceleration. Can anyone in here describe how hard they pull compared to the big v-twin cruisers or even a V-Max. I used to own a V-Max and it also had A LOT of low and mid range punch.

I gotta say that with all of your experience, I'd just go to the dealership and ask for a test ride, OR wait for a demo day.

RC51 is a vtwin. Rumor has it that it's fast.

I know the RC51 is fast, but it's a bit radical and pricey for me. I don't necessarily need the fastest thing on two wheels, I'm just looking for something with massive low and mid RPM acceleration. If I was going for something that was just pure fast, I could go with about any of the inline four crotch rockets, but none of them have any low or mid range punch.

you can install a PCIII on them.

if you go w/ a suzuki... you can install both a PCIII and a TRE.

even w/ just the TRE , which is a very simple and non-expensive mod, you will get the low-mid torque you want combined w/ the higher top speed.

im not sure if other makes also have a limiter and if they do i dunno what they use for a TRE.

installing PCIII usually requires that you upgrade your exhaust sys too so that's gonna be really expensive.

Ducati has some really nice V-twin sport bikes (yeah, yeah, they call it L-Twin). If you take a Ducati with similar cc's, like their ST4 or even their ST4s ( the touring version) and it will beat a v-max in all aspects. The ST4s, touring version, does the quarter in 10.75, and gets to 60 in 3.07. This is the HEAVIER touring version. With a bike like that, you get top rate suspension, legendary handling, tons of power, and it is still comfortable enough to ride around all day. 5.5 gallon fuel tank, and a 45mpg average.

All of their liter-bikes make for a very quick ride.

I've heard good things about the superhawk, except that is has an abysmal fuel range.

Ducati's are also very expensive. Even a used one would probably be out of my price range. I'd probably better stick with one of the Japanese bikes. Does Yamaha or Kawasaki make a v-twin sport bike?

Changing the engine's ignition timing and fuel mixture will not increase low-end torque to the levels the original poster wants. The inline four motors just aren't made for that - they are designed for lots of HP up high. A V-twin, with its much larger pistons, produces boatloads more torque, much lower, than any production inline four.

Also, a full exhaust system will actually sacrifice low-end torque and HP for high-end HP gains. Exactly opposite what the OP wants.

i thought that's what the PCIII is for in conjunction w/ the exhaust upgrade.

oh well, if you're right then i just learned something new again. :D
