Hey All!

I realize that Mike ("TMW" himself) posted some news release stories about the movie, "The World's Fastest Indian" in the News One Forum, but in case you missed it, I'm here to tell you that you should see this film. Some may (or may not) know that I run film at an independent movie house, and we just got done showing "The World's Fastest Indian". It's the real-life story of Burt Munro, a New Zealander who in his late 60's (and with a life threatening heart condition) traveled to the United States with his 1920 modified Indian and proceeded to break the land-speed record for his motorcycle's class at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. What an amazing guy!! - and a well made film to boot. If you can get to a movie house that is still showing the movie, please go check it out. At the very least, rent the flick. It's a great story. When I ran it at our theater, I met at least a half-dozen older gents who still ride and can remember when Burt Munro's story was big news (at least in the world of motor-heads).

Oh, and of course I bought up the movie poster right away from my theater. Only problem is... there's this guy that owns the barber shop next door to our theater and who also owns a 1940-something Indian bike. He really wants the poster, and apparently was begging my boss for it, but she knew that I wanted it and had to let him down easy. I felt like giving it to him, but I just can't. I really love it that much (and so does Scan). Anyway, sorry for the digression.

The most amazing thing to me was that this guy was performing engineering himself. He was not an engineer, but he knew how to melt steel and mold his own parts for his Indian. As he says in the movie, his bike did a top speed of 54 MPH in its day. He managed just over 200 on a partially non-factory made V twin. He had busted engine parts all over his shop under a banner that said "to the gods of speed". Way cool. See the film if you can. If anything can inspire you to see that you are never too old to have adventure and to ride a bike, this is the film.

see now that engineering bit makes me wanna see this thing.
