I got my license plate today, and my bike registered. So I went for my first ride on the street today. Lots of fun, a little chilly, but the weather was decent. Rode maybe 20 miles so far in traffic, and I'll be going out some more in about an hour, so I can go apply for some jobs. The cagers weren't too bad, the only real problem I had with them, was them making me nervous by tailgating me. My Nighthawk did well, shifted smoothly, accelerated quickly, I couldn't ask anymore of it. So yay me, today is a good day.

Cam-- congrats. It is a great feeling. I put 130 miles on the bike since last Monday when I got my license, and am loving it. I haven't had too much trouble with tailgating, but I think Atlanta traffic is loads worse than most places in Orlando. Just stay calm and stay visible. Looking forward to trading experiences with you.

Thanks. I'm not in a real bad traffic area of Atlanta, I actually live about a half an hour away from the city itself, so it's not too bad, I just need to concentrate on riding, not let the "Donut Holes" behind me distract me. Ok, well, I would type some more, but I'm off to ride!

Congrats! Move around on the road, if someone is tailgating you, switch lanes and let them pass. Not everyone will tailgate, and its easy to make yourself a safer riding situation.

I remember my first ride.
Previous to that I'd only ridden twice ever in parking lots, and not for that long.
I basically was sold the bike in a parking lot 10 miles from my house and having never ridden on the street before, I brought her home from there.

That's awesome dude and good luck to ya. Just a reminder, once you take that machine out more often you will fall prey to obsession of tinkering and wondering what changes you might want to make.

As for the tailgating, just take a look back once in a while to see if they pay attention to your brake light. If anything wear a mix of light and dark colors so you'll stand out more, maybe add some LED brake/ running lights. Nothing beats good armor as you might encounter douche nuggets here and there.

Mr camthepyro,,, be careful out there! Everytime I have my bike out there is always some close call, people in cars don't see ur bike, so you have to ride thinking everybody is going to pull out in front of you, then when they do run you off the road and you beep ur horn, yell at them give them the finger they look at you like ur crazy cause they didn't know what they did wrong, watch out for the young girls and the old ladies driving buicks

Oh, trust me, I have been watching out for the young girls . Anyway, that's all good advice.

I've only had one mishap today, and that was in the driveway, where I dropped the bike (do to a sink hole in my driveway), and the clutch lever broke of. So I used a bracket thing to put it back on, and it's working ok, except it's bending . I have to find a better solution until I can buy a new lever. Speaking of which, where can I buy a lever?
