What year did suzuki cease to make the gear displays to show yo uwhat gear you are in on the GS 550 L's? I know that the 1984 and 1985 models had them but any newer versions? Thanks for any help!

A bit of gumshoeing leads me to belive 1986 was the last model year for the L designation on those GS550s. I didn't find any info about the gear indicator option being discontinued before the bike trim itself was, so I'll say '86 was the last year for it. :)

If you don't have something relevant to say, don't post junk like this. We know you like those kinds of bikes. We know the features of them. We known you like the features, too. Stop trying to convince us and try going with the grain for a post or two. You might even like it!

the topic creator did say suzuki (in general) on the subject line so i thought i might share w/ the other bikes.

anyway... i liked the gear indicator, but after a month of riding i covered it already since i don't wanna depend on it anymore.

When you stop just keep downshifting until you cannot anymore. And you're done.

The cruisers all have a neutral light, that is all. You can buy some aftermarket speedo units that mount to the bars that will display things like current gear etc. But honestly, that's just a crutch, you don't NEED to know what gear you're in so long as you're in the powerband and downshift as many times as you possibly can when you stop (so you're in first). Other then that, it's all good.
