Beginner Bike for a BIG guy.

Hello All,

With prices soaring at the pump, I have fancied the idea of getting a bike. However I have one small problem, my problem is I am fat. I am 5'8", 350lbs. (to get an idea, check out my pic on myspace at http://www.myspace.com/tds77 ) - I am looking at getting a sport bike - j/k - - No seriously I am looking at a cruiser or standard bike. I have seen big guys before riding the big harley's, but the budget and expertise is not quite there. The last thing I have ridden was a BMX 150lbs ago. If anyone has any tips or suggestions, including maybe I shouldn't even get a bike at my size, I am pretty much open to anything. But hoping there may be a bike out there for me.

Thanks for taking the time to respond :D

2K - 3K - 4K - dunno - I mean even making payments would be less than what I spend in gas a month to get to work in my Lincoln. ($300 per month).

I commute about 100 miles daily. If I could use 1/3rd of the gas and put the other $200 that I spend in gas, towards something I actually own rather than burning it up every month.

Actually I liked the pic of the big guy on the scooter in one of your posts i found while lurking. I sent that one to my wife, saying I found the perfect bike for me

Maybe something along the lines of a 250 Virago? they seem popular. and fairly durable.

A 250 would pull him no problem... it'll be almost exactly like riding two-up all the time is all.

Suzuki C50. Predictable power for a beginner, yet strong enough for . . . well . . . you know.

Exactly.

Your weight of 350lbs is not going to be an issue. That's like 2 people who weigh 175 on a bike. Even a little 250cc bike with 36HP can carry that kind of weight with no problem. I've done it a lot myself. Never had an issue.
